Northern Cape police in conjunction with CPFs combat crime

7 June 2026 – Following the successful Operation Shanela II operations conducted in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District, the Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, continued her crime-fighting efforts in the ZF Mgcawu District, where she led a series of disruptive actions aimed at combating criminality. Otola was accompanied by the District Commissioner of ZF Mgcawu, Major General Monica Sebili, members of the Community Policing Forum, Community in Blue, and members from surrounding police stations and specialised units in the greater Upington area.

She further said the operations included visits to taxi ranks, stop-and-search actions and high-visibility patrols. Otola added that compliance inspections were also conducted at formal and informal businesses, salons and food outlets.

“Officials from the Department of Home Affairs assisted police by verifying the immigration status of individuals found at these establishments. In addition, we hosted a Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) awareness campaign at the Thembelihle Hall in Paballelo, aimed at raising awareness and encouraging communities to take a stand against GBV.

“Intelligence-driven operations led by senior management will continue unabated across the province to restore stability and intensify efforts to combat criminal activities,” she said.

Police confiscated drugs worth R16 000

15 May 2026 – A man (40) was arrested for possession of drugs in Kuilsville, Danielskuil on 13 May 2026. The members from the Crime Prevention Unit received a tip-off regarding a premises, where drugs were allegedly being sold.

The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Molefi Shemane said the information was immediately operationalised, resulting in the execution of a search warrant and the thorough search of the premises. Shemane said the police confiscated drugs with an estimated value of R16 000 and subsequent arrest of the suspect for dealing in drugs.

Meanwhile, the ZF Mgcawu District Police Commissioner, Major General Monica Sebili, commended the police who responded to the information received and thanked community members who provided the information. Sebili said the police will continue to work in collaboration with communities in the fight against drug-related crimes.

Commissioner confers ranks to newly-promoted members

9 February 2026- The ZF Mgcawu Police Commissioner, Major General Monica Sebili, together with her management team, conferred ranks to 16 members who were recently promoted. The ceremony took place in Upington in the ZFM District on 9 February 2026, where the newly-promoted members were congratulated by the management.

Sebili addressed the police emphasing the importance of self-discipline and urged the members conduct themselves with dignity and respect in order to uphold the South African Police Service (SAPS) Code of Conduct. She said the promoted members were encouraged to always act with integrity and accountability.

“Lieutenant Colonel AW Barnes was promoted to a supervision position at Rosedale Detective Service. Captain AI Basson is a new supervisor for Kakamas Client Service. Captain MVP Kopang will supervise Rosedale Client Service, while Captain NC Van Zyl was appointed as new supervisor for Vehicle Crime Investigation.

“Captain E Vundisa was appointed as Upington Stock-Theft & Endangered Species Unit Commander, Captain JAM Tyers was appointed as Douglas Detective Service Commander and Warrant Officer EL Halgryn was appointedas Kanoeneiland Detective Service Commander,” she said.

Sebolai further said Warrant Officer TKS Marungwana was appointed as Noenieput Detective Service Commander, Warrant Officer OS Masegela was appointed as Augrabies Visible Policing Commander, while Warrant Officer GA Seretsi was appointed as Rietfontein Detective Service Commander. She added that, Warrant Officer Julies SM was appointed as Riemvasmaak Visible Policing Commander and Warrant Officer V Kwela was appointed as Riemvasmaak Support Services Commander.

“Warrant Officer MI Thuake was appointed as Witdraai Detective Service Commander, Warrant Officer J De Koker was appointed as Gemsbok Border Post Information Manager, and Warrant Officer TKE Janda was appointed as Onseepkans Visible Policing Commander.

“The members will take up their new posts from 1 Marh 2026,” said Sebili.
