SITA IT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

In support of Government plans to develop skills, create sustainable employment and alleviate the plight of unemployment amongst South African youth, SITA is implementing the following Youth Development Programmes: Internship, Learnership and Bursaries.

Internship:
Is a programme that is aimed at giving relevant skills and work experience to unemployed graduates and tertiary students who require in-service training/experiential learning as part of the academic requirement, thus enhancing their chances of getting permanent employment. The programme aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice by providing interns with an opportunity to practically apply knowledge acquired on the job.

Interns are placed in areas that are relevant to their field of study and work under supervision of a workplace mentor & coach for the full duration of the programme.

Who qualifies? South African unemployed graduates between ages 18-35. Preference will be given to IT graduates.

Duration of the programme: 12 months, unless stated otherwise by the institution of higher learning.

Learnership:
Is a structured learning programme that incorporates both theoretical learning and practical work experience, leading to an occupation directed NQF aligned qualification. The learnership is governed by an agreement between the learner, employer and service provider.

Who qualifies? South African youth between ages 18-35. Learners must have completed matric.

Duration of the programme: 12 months (6 months theory & 6 months on the job training).

Bursaries:
Is financial assistance provided by SITA to SA youth studying towards a qualification in Information Technology with an institution of Higher Learning within the country. Who qualifies: Disadvantaged South African youth already studying toward an IT qualification.

Who qualifies? South African tertiary students already studying towards an IT qualification.

Duration of the bursary: From 2nd year of study onwards.

ANGLO AMERICAN PLATINUM, RBMR – North West, INTERNAL and EXTERNAL VACANCY

Role Description:

The Section Engineer is a 2.13.1/2.13.3.1 or 2.14.1 and 2.13.12 appointment in terms of the MHS Act and is responsible to provide operational service to the Manager Engineer, with a 1-year planning horizon. The role ensures effective and safe management of men and machinery in the Process Plant and the associated maintenance and construction linked to the area of responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the achievement of the Business plan
  • Carrying legal appointment (2.13.1/2.13.3.1 or 2.14.1/2.13.12) in Areas of responsibility:
  • Ensure legal compliance
  • Ensure maintenance to standards
  • Ensure the operational management of men and machinery
  • Ensure construction to standard
  • Provide technical advice to the Production Manager
  • Ensure safe and optimal maintenance and operation of machinery and equipment to required standards.
  • Sub-ordinate support to the Manager Engineer
  • Ensure Process Plant remains safe and fully operational.
  • Ensure Good employee Relations

Education:

  • Engineering related degree – BSC Engineering / Diploma
  • Government Certificate of Competency: Mines and Works
  • Five years post Engineering qualification experience, with at least 2 years in management role.
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Proficiency in English
  • Registered with Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) will be advantageous Knowledge of applicable laws, standards and specifications
  • Project management experience
  • Good decision making skills
  • Good management skills
  • Valid driving licence code 08
  • Experience in refinery plant operations will be advantageous

Required aptitudes:

  • Medically fit
  • Fit for movement around business area
  • Hand/ eye co-ordination
  • Not colour blind

Job description

Monitor and produce analytical reports on media coverage of government’s programmes and policies, as well as special events like the State of the Nation Address and the Budget Speech on an on-going basis. Monitor and produce early morning reports for Rapid Response. Participate in Communication Clusters, producing reports on cluster issues in the communication environment and presenting these at cluster meetings. Participate in GCIS Ops Room activities, which may require working early hours or on weekends. Involvement in government communication projects. Produce content analysis reports applying content analysis methodology/techniques. Produce policy analysis reports of selected policies receiving attention in the media, identifying communication implications.

Requirements

Applicants must have a relevant bachelors degree or equivalent qualification and/or experience in media, communication and policy issues. Strong knowledge and understanding of government policy priorities and outcomes approach.

Excellent knowledge and understanding of policy analysis. Knowledge of and a strong interest in the SA socio-political situation.
