Community Safety and Transport Management MEC Gaoage Oageng Molapisi will handover 32 driver licenses and 185 learner driver licenses to disadvantaged learners

In the last financial year, 300 learners from 5 selected schools across the Province participated in the project. Learners were trained by accredited instructors who were contracted by the Department.

The learner driver license project was initially implemented in 2012 in support of the Ministerial call towards the realization of the Decade of Action for Road Safety goal of reducing road fatalities by half in 2020.

This noble intention of the project is to ensure that these learners complete their Grade 12 in possession of a valid driver’s license which will lessen the urgency which often result in corrupt practices as newly employed or unemployed youth are more likely to be desperate for drivers’ Licenses as it is important an added advantage for employment.

The police in Reivilo are investigating a case of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition without a license after a 41-year-old Chinese national was arrested on Tuesday, at about 16:55 in Reivilo.

North West police spokesperson, Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said that the police were searching the shop owned by the suspect for illicit cigarettes.  They were allegedly busy with the search when they found a firearm loaded with three rounds inside the box.

“The suspect could not provide the police with the relevant document and the suspect was apprehended while the firearm was seized. The police also found and seized 45 packets (20’s ) of  illicit cigarettes, and the suspect was issued with a fine” Mokgwabone said.

The suspect is expected to appear in Reivilo Periodical Court on Thursday.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the firearm belongs to a police official. It is not yet clear at how the suspect got hold of the firearm.  The case of negligent loss of firearm has been registered against the member and the internal investigation has been instituted” he said.

North West MEC for Social Development, Fenny Gaolaolwe will on tomorrow outline her new plans of service delivery in her budget speech to be tabled at the Provincial Legislature at 09h00.

Gaolaolwe will, among others outline plans to fight poverty, youth development, massification of early childhood development centres, social crime prevention and job creation initiatives in the current financial year.

His spokesperson Petrus Siko said MEC Gaolaolwe will also present a trail of successes that the department has attained in the reporting period.

“The MEC will also focus her attention on the current community projects aimed at a improving the lives of people in villages, townships and small dorpies. I also want to indicate that these service delivery achievements were not made during the year under review only. They were made during the twenty years of Freedom.

Rustenburg- MEC for Education and Sports Development Wendy Matsemela is excited about the second edition of the 2015 Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League and believes that the NW Flame Netball team will do the province proud.  “We are sharing the joy with you as you will be representing the province, we wish you all the best” said MEC.  “It is our wish as Education and Sports Development to see each and every sporting code being supported accordingly… and as you go out there remember that you are walking in the footprints of the many sports men and women who have made us proud in the province”, added Matsemela.  The Handover of the provincial sporting colours was held at Holy Family Combined School, Mogwase (Rustenburg) yesterday.

The Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League is the sport’s flagship competition in South Africa and underlines the phenomenal growth of the code in recent years. Most importantly the second edition of the tournament indicates another step towards the goal of a fully-professional women’s sport.

The provincial women’s netball team, North West Flames will be going against defending champions Free State Crinums in the Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League.  This match will set in motion the tournament which will start on Friday the 08^th of May 2015 at the University of Pretoria Sports Campus.

The competition once again pits 10 provincial-based teams from all nine provinces against each other over five weeks of intense competition. For the second year in succession the event will take place at the University of Pretoria’s impressive sports centre from where Super Sport will broadcast 37 of the 48 matches live from the venue.

The University of Fort Hare has awarded SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Administration for his excellent work as an outstanding football administrator.

Dr Jordaan, whose sterling work as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the 2010 FIFA World Cup on home soil earned him global accolades, will be conferred with the Doctorate at the graduation ceremony to be held in East London on Thursday, 7 May 2015.

Fort Hare has played a key role in producing some of the finest leaders in the country and much of the sub-Saharan Africa, including the likes of the late former state President Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo of the African National Congress, Dr Mangosuthu Buthelezi, Robert Sobukwe, Desmond Tutu, Kenneth Kaunda, Julius Nyerere, Robert Mugabe and Joshua Nkomo.

Fort Hare has been undergoing major period of renewal and revitalisation aimed at playing a key role in supporting post apartheid democracy through the generation of world-class skills, cutting edge knowledge and active involvement in socio-economic development.

Dr Jordaan already has Doctorates from the University of South Africa, the Nelson Mandela University and University of the Western Cape.

He is a recipient of the Special Presidential Award (1994) from the late State President Nelson Mandela in addition to Presidential Sport Achievement Award which he received from former President Thabo Mbeki in 2001 and the Order of Ikhamanga in Gold from President Jacob Zuma in 2011.

Kimberley police are searching for a black male, who is believed to be in between the age of 25 and 27, he is medium build, 1.8 metres tall.

Northern Cape police said during the incident the suspect was wearing tekkies, cream coloured pants and a yellow T-shirt with red stripped.

“The suspect is accused of rape case which was committed on the 17 March 2015 at about 07:30am. It is alleged that the suspect grabbed the 13-year-old school girl on her way to school and dragged her into a nearby veld. The suspect threatened to kill the girl with a knife, and he took her to the bushes near R31Barkly West road, and raped her” lieutenant Sergio Kick said.

The Centre for Public Service Innovation in partnership with the North West Provincial Government will on Thursday, 07^th May 2015 launch the Call for entries for the 13^th Annual CPSI Public Sector Innovation, at Mmabatho Palms Hotel at 10:00 am.

The CPSI is an institution in the Ministry of Public Service and Administration established to identify, support, nurture, test and pilot innovative solutions in the public sector with a view to improve service delivery. 

The role of the CPSI is primarily to function as an enabler, facilitator and champion for innovative ideas.  This requires creating an enabling environment for the generation and rewarding of new ideas; facilitating engagements among public, private and non-governmental entities, with a view to establishing sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships andchampioning the value of and need for innovation within the public service.

As part of its mandate, the CPSI holds the Annual Public Sector Innovation Awards programme which is now in its 13th year.

The call for entries for the 2015 edition of the Awards will be launched in partnership with the Office of the Premier in the North West Province and MTN Foundation and it is an official call for the Public Sector to make submissions of their innovative projects under the following categories:

·        Innovative Partnerships in Service delivery (i.e. government to government, private sector with government; CBO/NGO with government)

·        Innovative use of ICTs for effective service delivery

·        Innovative Service Delivery Institutions (i.e. schools, hospitals, clinics, courts, police stations)

·        Innovative Enhancements of Internal Systems of Government

The category winners will then compete for the coveted Public Sector Innovator of the Year Award.

The annual Public Sector Innovation Awards promote and encourage best practices in the public sector innovation and celebrate the successes of individuals and teams at all spheres of government. The programme also serves as a tool for expanding innovation and encouraging others to innovate for improved of service delivery.

The awards also serve as an important conduit for entry into the prestigious international awards programmes such as the United Nations Public Service Awards, the Common Wealth Association for Public Administration & Management (CAPAM) International Innovation Awards, the All Africa Public Sector Innovation Awards (AAPSIA) and the Africa Association for Public Administration Management (AAPAM) Awards.

MEC for the Department of Culture, Arts and Traditional Affairs (Cata) Ms Tebogo Modise has lauded singer and television personality Stoan Seate and his fellow celebrity friends for their inspiration to the youth of Bokone Bophirima and their fight against xenophobia.

Speaking on Sunday in Johannesburg at the send-off ceremony for the 10-odd cyclists who are participating in the five-day Johannesburg-Mahikeng charity tour, Ms Modise challenged Seate and his friends to identify artists along the 340km route who could benefit from the assistance of the Department.

“As you go through the many villages, townships and small dorpies of Bokone Bophirima, I would like you to interact with talented artists you believe are worthy of being taken to the next level,” she told the cyclists. “We will support those artists, in one way or another.”

In reference to the tour itself, Ms Modises said: “The musician is a son of the North West and now he has made it clear that he wants to take this trip as part of his acknowledgement of the skills provided to him by the Province,”  added Ms Modise. “We support him wholeheartedly in his drive.”

The team features ten riders, including actors Thato Molamu (Umlilo), seasoned cyclist and team leader Warren Masemola (Ayeye), Celebrity Fitness Instructor Mamo Maloka and other philanthropists from Botswana, Bokone Bophirima and Gauteng. Along the way they will be joined by other riders supporting the cause.

The tour runs from May 3-7, covering around 60 kilometres a day.

Dubbed Ikgate Motlhala 2015 tour, the cycling experience is organised under the umbrella of Seate’s 4020 Phenomenon. The tour is geared towards getting the Mahikeng-born artist to celebrate his Bokone Bophirima roots, while marking his 40th birthday and 20 years in the music industry.

Explaining the essence of the 4020 Phenomenon, Seate said: “The 4020 Phenomenon serves a philanthropic catalyst that aims to contribute and improve learning and enrichment of young people through education, arts and health. We seek to become agents of change through giving, support and providing the necessary resources to schools and early development centres.”

In the spirit of promoting Bokone Bophirima’s magnificent scenery, the route will take riders through places of interests across the Province affording cyclists the opportunity to connect with nature and local culture.

As part of the programme, Seate will be visiting schools and promoting indigenous culture. He will seek to inspire members of the communities that he will be stopping at, along the way.

Commenting on the effort, Seate said: “This is a remarkable milestone for me and I want to share it with the world by giving back to the community that I grew up in. The sense of satisfaction at completing the ride whilst raising money, touching lives and networking with other givers is what this ride is all about.

“We are also sending a message against Xenophobia. We say we are all Africans and we are one. Let’s stop the attacks and live like brothers and sisters.”

Regarding the schools, he will help identify critical needs with a view towards finding partners to help where possible.

Some of the major stops are Hartebeespoort, Mojakaneng, Tlhabane, Swartruggenns and Zeerust.

The cycle tour is scheduled to end at noon on May 7, at Mmabana Foundation in Mahikeng.
