The North West MEC for Tourism, Desbo Mohono will on Thursday 07 May 2015 welcome a team of cyclists and philanthropists lead by the provincial tourism ambassador who is also a renowned television presenter and hip-hop artist Tshepo Stoan Seate in Mafikeng. The team has been cycling from Johannesburg since Sunday and has thus far completed over 350 kilometers.

The Team passed through small dorpies of Rustenburg, Swartruggens and Zeerust, identifying disadvantaged schools, which they committed to assist. The gesture by the team, is mainly to celebrate Seate’s 40^th birth day and celebrate his 20th year in the music industry. The programme is called Ikgate Motlhala phenomenon, celebrated under the theme “Lets build the legacy”.

MEC Desbo Mohono will welcome the team which includes actors and well known personalities into the capital city Mafikeng around lunch time.

Rustenburg – The South African Police Service’s crime intelligence offices in Mahikeng, in the North West have burnt down, police said on Thursday.

“The police registered an inquiry after a building occupied by South African Police Service crime intelligence caught fire today [Wednesday] at approximately 1:45pm.

In efforts to strengthen the fight against crime in the Mahikeng CBD and sorounding villages, the Bokone Bophirima Community Safety and Transport Management MEC Gaoage Molapisi will introduce the appointed contractor for the installation of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Cameras and handover the site for the project.

The installation of CCTV cameras is part of the Premier Mahumapelo’s call on Rebranding, Renewal and Repositioning the Province’s Capital City.

The project is anticipated to create jobs for the local unemployed young men and women.

Further the building of the control room for the CCTV Cameras will be handed over to the appointed service provider to commence with the project which will unfold in three phases.

Cameras would be installed in areas and villages regarded as crime hotsports within Mahikeng.

Kimberley police are investigating a case of rape after two unknown men took turns raping a 17-year-old woman on 2014 September 09. The victim was allegedly raped at the West End grave yard while she visited her mother’s grave, at approximately 18:00.

“One suspect was wearing a white T-shirt and pink pants, held a knife against her throat and threatened to kill her. The suspect was tattooed a lion on the left side of his arm . The other suspect was wearing a red-T-shirt and a pocket brown pants, had sores and scars, and also sores on his arms. They are believed to be African- coloured male persons” Northern Cape police spokesperson lieutenant Sergio Kock said.

A man was injured following a pedestrian accident on Dekenah Road in Alrode, Alberton.

Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found a man lying on the ground after he was knocked over by a vehicle. Upon assessment of the injured pedestrian, paramedics found that he had sustained moderate to serious injuries during the accident.

The injured man was treated at the scene and transported to hospital for further medical care.

Exact detail surrounding the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation.

A man was injured following an accident on Bezuidenhout Road in Wadeville.

Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found the crumpled remains of a light delivery vehicle after a heavy goods vehicle crashed against a light delivery vehicle.

Upon assessment of the man travelling in the light delivery vehicle, paramedics found that the man had sustained serious to critical injuries following the crash. The injured man was treated at the scene, place don a trauma board and transported to hospital for further medical care.

The occupant of the heavy goods vehicle were not injured during the accident.

Exact detail surrounding the cause of the accident and preceding events are still unknown and will remain the subject of a police investigation.

The highlight in every student’s life is the day when he or she finally graduates.  For graduating students from the NWU Mafikeng Campus the Autumn Graduations will span the crown on their hard work when they will be walking the stage from 6 to 8 May 2015.

From the five faculties a total of 487 diplomas and certificates will be awarded as well as 1 185 degrees. As a reflection on how seriously the campus regards research and innovation, 341 post graduation degrees will be conferred. This includes 252 honours degrees, 56 master’s degrees, 16 MBA degrees and 17 doctoral degrees.

“Throughout the three days, five graduation ceremonies will be held during which prominent speakers will address the graduates and wish them well for the future. Prof Maluleke  who is an expert in the field of Transport Economics and Planning, Supply Chain Management, Business Logistics, Operations Management and Research  will be speaking during the ceremony of the Faculty of Commerce and Administration. Prof Nithaya Chetty, Deputy CEO of the National Research Fund will address the graduates from the Faculty of Agriculture, Science and Technology. During the ceremony of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, Dr Cassius Frederick Lubisi, Director General in the Office of the President, will convey his message to the students” North West University spokesperson Phenyo Mokgothu said.

The Mafikeng Campus will also honour Mr Nick Bester, who is well known in athletic circles, with the NWU Chancellor’s Medal to give recognition to his contribution to the development of athletes and sport in general. This medal is awarded to persons who have shown exceptional achievement of a non-academic nature and/or exceptional contributions in any sphere of life that are compatible with the vision and mission of the university.

Kimberley police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a 47-year-old Eunice Maureen Beerkat was killed in a hit and run on Barkley Road, between Santa Centre and Homestead.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant Sergio Kock said it is alleged that on Sunday, at approximately 19:00, the driver of a white car hit the deceased, with the vehicle and after the incident sped off from the scene without ascertaining the injuries sustained by the deceased.

Eunice was transported to the local hospital where she later passed on as a result of injuries sustained during the accident.

“The driver of the white vehicle is still at large. However we are appealing to members of the public to assist the police with the information which may lead to the arrest of the driver of the white car, alternatively the driver of the white car can handed him/herself or to Kimberley police station or to any nearest policer station” he said.

Four children were injured following an accident on Rustenburg Road in Krugersdorp West this afternoon.

Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found that a heavy goods vehicle and two motor vehicles were involved in the accident. Reports from the scene indicate that one motor vehicle crashed against the side of the other motor vehicle resulting in one of the vehicles then coming to a standstill against the heavy goods vehicle.

Upon assessment of all the occupants from all three vehicles, paramedics found that two boys and two girls travelling in one of the vehicles were injured during the crash. A boy was found to have sustained serious injuries while the other boy and two girls sustained minor to moderate injuries. The drivers from all three vehicles were not injured during the accident.

The four children were treated at the scene and transported to hospital for further medical care.

Exact detail surrounding the cause of the crash and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation.

Traffic was severely affected as a result of the crash.

A man was injured following an incident on Andrea Road near Booysens Road in Booysens, Johannesburg this afternoon.

Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found a twenty-five-year-old man lying on a grass patch next to the side of the road.

The man verbalised that he was lying on the grass patch during his lunch break when a towing vehicle drove onto the grass patch and drove over the man. The vehicle continued to drive off following the incident.

Upon assessment of the injured man, paramedics found that the man had sustained serious injuries during the incident.

The injured man was treated at the scene, placed on a trauma board and transported to hospital for further medical care.
