22 October 2026 – The North West Provincial Legislature (NWPL) has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that members, officials or employees of the Legislature have been arrested or questioned by the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) or any other law enforcement agency.
In a media statement, the Office of the Speaker, expressed concern over what it described as false reports targeting the integrity of the Legislature, the Speaker and senior officials. This comes after widespread allegations on social media platforms suggesting that the Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Viola Motsumi has been arrested by the PKTT.
Motsumi spokesperson, Vuyo Mantshule said the Legislature urged members of the public, the media and colleagues to refrain from sharing or commenting on the reports, including through their personal social media accounts. Mantshule said sharing such reports further spreads false information and serves the interests of those responsible for creating it.
“The Legislature also called on journalists to verify information with the Office of the Speaker before publishing reports to ensure accuracy.
“It reaffirmed its accountability to the people of the North West province and indicated that the Office of the Speaker was attending to the matter and considering legal and other remedies,” he said.
