11 October 2026 – Delareyville is a small agricultural and historical town in the Tswaing Local Municipality, Ngaka Modiri Molema District, North West Province, South Africa. Founded in 1913 and laid out in 1914, the town was named after the famous Boer General Jacobus Herculaas (Koos) de la Rey.
It sits in the northwestern corner of the country’s “maize triangle,” roughly 3.5 hours by car from Johannesburg. The area is a major hub for maize, sorghum, groundnut, and sunflower cultivation, alongside cattle and sheep farming.
The district features numerous salt pans with distinct pink coloration that attract large flocks of flamingos. Barberspan Nature Reserve is located about 15km from town, it is a premier destination for bird-watching (housing thousands of waterfowl), fishing, and boating.
Henk Joubert Game Reserve is a home to various antelope species like kudu and springbok, as well as zebras and ostriches. Historical landmarks includes the Dutch Reformed Church (a national monument) and the Rooiwal Monument honoring Anglo-Boer War burghers.
Recent infrastructure challenges are water crisis. Residents in Delareyville and nearby villages have faced severe water supply disruptions and infrastructure delays involving local municipal boreholes and incomplete water projects.
