‘Matsheng murder accused denied bail’

A case against four accused who were arrested in connection of murder in Matsheng village, near Taung was postponed.

Two Chake brothers, Oratile (26) and Tshepo (28), and their two accomplices Ogodiseng Matlhola (24) and Thebeitsile Sege (24) briefly appeared in Taung Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. 

The four are accused of killing a 28-year-old Bangladeshi business man three weeks ago.

Two Chauke brothers and Sege were arrested on 27 July 2015 and made their first appearance on Thursday, 30 July 2015.  Matlhola was arrested on Friday, 31 July 2015 after further investigations linked him to the incident.  

The four allegedly broke the wall of the victim’s shop and stabbed him with a sharp object while he was asleep. The attack happened on Thursday, 23 July 2015 at Matsheng Village in Taung.

A substantial amount of money and groceries valued at thousands were stolen.  

The community of Taung gave police information which led to the arrest of the four and police recovered some money, groceries and keys of the shop during the arrest. 

The four are expected to re-appear in the same court on 17 August 2015. They remain in custody.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the North West police Major General Jacob Tsumane applauded the community for working with the police. “I want to assure you that this case will receive the necessary attention”  said the Acting Provincial Commissioner.

Greater Taung Local Municipality and the Department of Education and Sports Development welcome World Special Olympics Champions from Los Angeles on Thursday.

Greater Taung Municipality acting spokesperson, Motshidisi Letlhogela said the Taung’s Boiling Pot of champions is mesmerizing!

“We welcome home, Dineo Monchonyane: Gold Medalist and Table Tennis and Pelonomi Moalusi: Silver Medalist on Cross Country Marathon.

“The Greater Taung Local Municipality will host a Special Breakfast with the Dineo Monchonyane and Pelonomi Moalusi and their family members at the Taung Hotel School on Thursday,” she said.

Letlhogela said the people of Taung and the neighbouring villages, Towns and Small Dorpies will have a ball rolling whereby these champions will be parading from Taung Education offices via Extention 6 and 7, direct to Ba-Ga-Phuduhucwana Tribal Authority, then via Kgatleng to Sebitloane Special School.

“The people of Taung are invited to come and do a warm welcome to these outstanding daughters of the soil and champions of the world,” outlines Letlhogela.

Government trained Emergency Care Technicians to graduate from North West EMRS College

The North-West EMRS College will be hosting the Emergency Care Technicians (ECT) formal Graduations ceremony on Thursday.

A total of 33 ECTs will be graduating and the group comprises of in-service personnel as well as school leavers who were offered a bursary by the Department of Health.

“At the moment the graduates have already been registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa and are now licensed to practise,” Lekgethwane said.

These graduates will be the last to complete the ECT NQF level 05 qualification.

North West Health department spokesperson Tebogo Lekgethwane said The National Emergency Care, Education and Training policy provides for a new three tier system of Emergency Care Qualification to be introduced in 2016.

“This means the new ECT qualification has been upgraded to NQF level 06. However, this new development will not in any way affect the graduates negatively as they will still be able to progress with further studies within the same field of Emergency Medical Care,” he said.

The MEC for Health in the province, Dr. Magome Masike and other dignitaries will grace the occasion.

SCOPA to meet with Dr Ruth Mompati District

SCOPA to Hold MFMA Public Hearings with Dr. Ruth Mompati District and Great Taung Local Municipalities in Taung.

North West Provincial Legislature’s Standing Committee on Provincial Public Accounts (SCOPA) will hold public hearings on the Municipal Finance Management Act audit outcomes of the financial year 2013/14 for Dr. Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District and Greater Taung Local Municipalities at Greater Taung Municipal Chamber at 09h00.

The public hearings will be attended by the Mayors, Municipal Managers including senior management of municipalities, Municipal Public Account Committees, representatives from the Department of Finance, Economy and Enterprise Development; Department of  Local Government and Human Settlements and the Auditor General’s office.

Two suspects nabbed, beaten up in Taung

TWO suspects were admitted at Taung hospital after they were beaten  by Matsheng village residents, in Taung.

The atrocity took place on Sunday at around 12:00pm after four suspects allegedly entered the shop owned by Chinese national.

North West police spokesperson major Pelonomi Makau said four suspects allegedly entered the shop and pointed the owner with firearms.

“The suspects allegedly robbed the Chinese shop undisclosed amount of money and other belongings at gun-point. One of community members who saw the incident, screamed for help,” Makau said.

She said the community members chased at the armed suspects and managed to arrest two of them.

“The community chased after the suspects and managed to arrest two of them. The two suspects were severely beaten and were admitted at Taung hospital,” Makau said.

Ward councillor, Ebusang Tladi applauded community members who helped in arresting the suspects.

“Number of police need to be increased so that they can fight pound for pound against criminals. We waited for police for long, and community took the matter into their own hands,” he said.

Police advised community members to refrain from mob justice as that is unlawful and they could be arrested.

Fourth suspect nabbed in Matsheng murder case

A 22-year-old man briefly appeared before Taung Magistrates Court after he was linked to a murder case.

Donald Matlhola was allegedly arrested by Taung police after they robbed and killed a Bangladesh businesman.
Dalim Ali (35) was robbed and stabbed to death by four suspects and undisclosed amount of money and his belongings were stolen.

Police acted swiftly and arrested three suspects last week and a tip-off from the community members.

The fourth suspect fled and was arrested at Honeydew in Johannesburg on Friday.

The case against Donald Matlhola, Tshepo Chake, Oratile Chake and Thebeetsile Sege will resume on Wednesday for bail application.

Police recovered items belonging to the deceased at the residential areas of the suspects.
Bangladesh Community Forum secretary, Hasan Alzahid (34) condemned the attack on foreign nationals.

“We do not feel any safe nowadays because of criminal activities launched against us. We condemn that in any possible way because what some of the residents doing is totally wrong and out of question,” Alzahid said.

Positive Youth Of Taung organisation chairperson, Phemelo Mohutsiwa said crime affect the economy of the area and community members need to stand up and fight.

“We living in the days where some of criminals now target unsuspecting victims. Taung has changed and that only spell danger. We need to stand up and help the police to root out scourge of crimes that we experiencing,” Mohutsiwa said.

Taung man murdered, suspect at large

NORTH West police are investigating a case of murder at Tamasikwa village, near Taung after he was allegedly stabbed to death.

The gruesome took place on Sunday morning.

Major Pelonomi Makau said it is alleged that the victim was from a local tavern when approached by unknown man.

“A 54-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by unknown man. Simon Tshipinyane was from a local tavern and was approached by unknown man at his house’s gate.

“The suspect allegedly stabbed him with a knife on the head and neck. Tshipinyane succumbed to stabbing wounds and was found dead by some of his relatives,” Makau said.

South African Civic Organisation. (Sanco) Regional Secretary in Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District, Mika Moeti said his organisation is concern about string of crimes taking place in Taung recently.

“We need to intensify our security and safety measures to combat crime. Police cannot achieve that alone as it seems criminals are now targeting remote areas to practice their evil deeds,” he said.

Moeti also added that, community need to help police because most of criminals are from the society.

2 LEARNERS AND 1 ASSISTANT TEACHER DIED IN A HORRIFIC CAR ACCIDENT


The 2 learners of 17 and 18 years ages and 1 assistant teacher from the North West School for the Deaf died in an accident after their mini bus kombi lost control and rolled several times killing them instantly and injuring 6 passengers on the road between Orkney and Leeudoringstad on Sunday, 2 August 2015 in the early hours.

The 7 learners and their 2 teachers were travelling back from Durban after attending a 2 days hospitality course arranged by a Deaf Friendly organization. Normally the learners attend these courses to upgrade their skills in cooking and food preparation according to their study programme.

The 3 learners sustained serious injuries and are reported to be in a stable condition while 2 other learners and 1 teacher who was driving the vehicle were released from Tshepong hospital in Klerksdorp, today after being treated for minor injuries.
The North West Education and Sport Development MEC Maphefo Matsemela, expressed her shock after hearing the sad news about the horrible accident.

“I am deeply shocked after hearing the devastating news about the accident which occurred this morning. It is very sad to lose the lives of such young people, as we expected a lot from them. On behalf of the department I wish to convey our condolences to the bereaved families and also wish the injured learners and their teacher a speedy recovery”, said MEC Matsemela.

One person perished in a car accident

One person has died and two people were injured during an accident on the N1 south bound approximately forty kilometres from Bloemfontein this morning.

Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found that a minibus had left the roadway, overturned several times and came to a standstill next to the roadway back on its wheels.

Upon assessment of the three occupants, paramedics found that a man had tragically lost his life during the rollover accident. There was nothing that paramedics could do for the man and he was declared dead at the scene.

“One man was found to be in a critical condition and a medical helicopter was activated to airlift the critically injured man to hospital for the urgent medical care that he required,” Netcare spokesperson Santo Steinmann said.

A woman was found to have sustained serious injuries during the rollover accident and after receiving treatment at the scene, the injured woman was transported to hospital for further medical care.

Exact detail surrounding the cause of the rollover accident and preceding events are still unclear and will remain the subject of a police investigation.

Saps top cop lied about qualifications


JOHANNESBURG – The South African Police Services (Saps) has confirmed the resignation of former crime intelligence head Chris Ngcobo after an investigation found that he lied about his qualifications. 

Ngcobo resigned on Friday after it was revealed there were discrepancies with his matric certificate.
