Zuma calls for unity at ANC Women’s League congress

Johannesburg – President Jacob Zuma emphasised the importance of unity in the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) when he addressed their long-awaited conference on Thursday night.

Zuma called on delegates not to focus on the leadership battle, which had become a trend, but on policies affecting women.

“Why are we doing it? We are changing the organisation to be something else so when you come to [the] conference, the outcome is poorer because delegates are busy in the lobby sessions,” he said to loud claps and cheers.

Nkandla ad hoc committee endorses report

Murder accused DJ to continue testifying

Johannesburg – Former DJ Donald Sebolai, who is accused of killing his girlfriend, is expected to continue testifying in his trial on Friday.

This after his testimony, which was due to continue on Thursday, was delayed.

It had been love at first sight and he thought his fights with Rachel Dolly Tshabalala were a normal part of a relationship, he told the High Court in Johannesburg sitting in Palm Ridge on Wednesday.

He is accused of stabbing Tshabalala in his flat in Jabulani, Soweto, on June 29, 2014. The Jozi FM DJ was arrested in Dube on July 8 after being on the run.

Investigating officer, Constable Oupa Khubeka, told the court during Sebolai’s bail application last year that Tshabalala’s wounds were horrific.

“She was stabbed in her private parts. The stab wounds start from the genitals to the right thigh. These were deep wounds that showed the amount of violence that took place.”

He is out on R10 000 bail.

Pretoria – Men in the ANC had the “audacity” to instruct women who to elect as leaders, ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) president Angie Motshekga said on Thursday.

She was delivering her political report to the conference in Pretoria.

“It cannot be [that in] the ANC… as women are currently subjected to… male leaders have the audacity to instruct us on who to choose, as recently happened in some regions and provinces. That was nothing but abuse of office and relationships, and should be condemned in the strongest terms,” she said.
