3 October 2026 – The South African Police Service (SAPS) Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) has arrested a mayor, municipal manager and chief financial officer (CFO) of a municipality on the southern coast of the Western Cape in connection with an alleged corruption investigation involving a security services contract. The arrests follow a tip-off received regarding allegations that a businessman who had been awarded a security services contract was allegedly solicited for kickbacks in exchange for the continuation of the contract.
SAPS national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said it is further alleged that the businessman had already paid hundreds of thousands of rand after allegedly fearing that his security services contract would be terminated. Mathe said the three suspects face charges of corruption and are expected to appear in court on 5 October 2026.
“The arrests followed an investigation into allegations of corruption linked to the municipal security contract.
