9 September 2026 – A man (18) was arrested for possession of suspected stolen stock. At approximately 5:30pm, the police received a tip-off about a man allegedly carrying stolen stock produce.
The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Molefi Shemane said they followed up at an open field near Riemvasmaak, where they stopped and searched the suspect. Shemane said a sheep carcass was found in his bag and he was unable to explain its possession.
“He is expected to appear in court soon. Investigations are continuing to establish the carcass’s origin and whether it is linked to stock theft. The SAPS thanks the community for providing information and urges livestock owners to mark and regularly account for their animals, reporting missing livestock immediately.
“Members of the public should report suspicious activities and avoid confronting suspected criminals,” he said.
