‘Gangsters nabbed for business robbery in Wollies’

The North West police said in an endeavor to fight gangsterism, four alleged members of the Mathintha gang aged between 17 and 25, were arrested on Sunday. It is alleged that a gang consisting of eight suspects armed with pangas, knives and iron pipes, stormed into a tuck-shop in Chris Hani Section, Tswelelang Township in Wolmaransstad. 

The North West police spokesperson, Col Adele Myburgh said the suspects allegedly robbed the shop of an undisclosed amount of cash and stock to the estimated value of R6000. Myburgh further said shortly after the incident was reported to the police, the first two suspects, Tebogo Kenalemang (18) and Kgotso Emmanuel “Pakistan” Thabe (19), were arrested by the police. 

“They briefly appeared in the Wolmaransstad Magistrate’s Court on 17 April 2024 and were remanded in custody. Further investigation by the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit, led to two more arrests on 3 May 2024. 

“The two suspects, aged 25 and 17, will appear before the Wolmaransstad Magistrate’s and Children’s Court respectively on 6 May 2024, on charges of business robbery. Anyone who may have information that can assist the police in the investigation, including the arrest of the remaining suspects, can contact Captain Mpho Mosiane of the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit on Cell 082 ‪492 3762,” she added.

Meanwhile, the North West Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, congratulated the police for their speedy reaction and the Anti-Gang Unit members for their meticulous investigation that resulted in these arrests. Kwena said this will impact positively on crimes committed by gangs in the area.
