North West police said the Chinese businessman kidnapping matter was a false alarm. Provincial police spokesperson, Paul Ramaloko said the Chinese businessman from Manthe village in Taung left with the alleged kidnapper voluntarily.

“Police can confirm that the kidnapping case that was supposed to be opened at Taung police station was deserted after preliminary investigations. A Chinese businessman informed the police that he was not kidnapped as it was reported. He left with the person voluntarily.” Ramaloko said.

The police received a call from the businessman’s wife alleging that her husband was kidnapped. Police rushed to the scene and realised later on that the man did not inform his wife about his trip.

Police appeal to the broader community not to be restless. Ramaloko also highlighted that the residents inform their spouses or relatives about their trips to avoid misconstruction.
