2 November 2026 – Three additional suspects in connection with a violent farm robbery and attempted murder in Syferfontein, Ventersdorp, have been arrested, bringing the total to five. The latest arrests were affected on 1 November 2026 in Promosa Township, near Potchefstroom by the Ventersdorp Detectives, supported by members of the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit, following intensive investigative and operational efforts.

The North West police spokesperson, Colonel Adele Myburgh said during the operation, the police seized four firearms, of which two are linked to the Ventersdorp incident, as well as clothing items and jewellery. Myburgh said the arrests follow an incident that occurred on 28 October 2026, during which a farmer, Donovan Marx (50) was shot and brutally assaulted, with his ears allegedly cut off.

Meanwhile, the North West Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Arthur Adams, has welcomed the latest arrests and commended the Ventersdorp Detectives and the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit for their continued dedication, working through the night and collaborative efforts in pursuing those responsible. Adams said these arrests demonstrate the commitment of their members to ensuring that those who commit violent crimes against members of the communities are brought to book.

“We commend the investigating team, under the command of Captain Bonita Dry for their persistence and determination in following up on leads, which have resulted in further arrests and the recovery of firearms and other items of evidential value.

“The five suspects aged between 26 and 56, are expected to appear before the Ventersdorp and Potchefstroom Magistrate’s Courts respectively on 3 November 2026, for charges of house robbery, attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition,” he said.
