Two men nabbed for house robbery

20 July 2026 – Two men aged 23 and 27 were arrested in connection with a house robbery in Diplankeng Section in Magogong village, near Taung on 9 July 2026. The initial investigations revealed that a man (26) was allegedly resting at his home in the early hours of Thursday, 9 July 2026, when he woke up due to noise.

The North West police spokesperson, Constable Thuto Bobelo said he discovered that two unknown armed men wearing balaclavas were inside his bedroom. Bobelo said the victim attempted to scream for help, but was overpowered.

“The suspects forcefully took money and a smartphone before fleeing the scene. The matter was reported to the police, who managed to trace and arrest both suspects. In addition, one round of ammunition and a toy gun were recovered during arrest proceedings.

“The accused, Ezekiel Phirisi (22) and Edwin Madito (27) were charged with house robbery and briefly appeared before the Taung Magistrate’s Court on 16 July 2026. They were remanded in custody until 20 July 2026,” he said.

Meanwhile, the acting North West Police Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, applauded the bravery of the police in the arrest of the suspects. Naidoo reiterated that all perpetrators who violate the law, will be brought to justice and that the police will continue to strive for a safer community that is free from the danger of illegal firearms.
