Five killed in Cape Town accident

CAPE TOWN – At least five people died in separate road accidents in Cape Town on Tuesday.

A 21-year-old man lost control of his car on Voortrekker road in Kensington.

About 10 minutes later, three more people lost their lives on the same road when a taxi driver lost control of his vehicle.

The three occupants were believed to be foreign nationals in their early thirties.

On Monday, the Road Traffic Management Corporation said preliminary statistics from 1 December to 30 December revealed that more than 1207 fatalities were recorded.

Three people died and two injuried in fatal accident

Three people have been killed and two others have sustained serious injuries after the bakkie they were traveling in lost control on the M13 in Johannesburg West and rolled numerous times before coming to a halt off the road this morning.

 

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the bakkie with the occupants strewn across the road. Paramedics assessed the patients and found that three people had already succumbed to their injuries and were declared deceased on scene. Another patient had sustained very serious and traumatic injuries and needed Advanced Life Support intervention. Due to the injuries that the patient had sustained a medicopter was called to the scene to airlift the patient to hospital. Paramedics treated one more person for suspected neck and back injuries and multiple cuts and abrasions. The patient was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

 

It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control of his vehicle but the necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.

A Lonmin miner granted a bail

Rustenburg, North West – The Lonmin miner arrested for possession of platinum has been granted R800 bail, North West police said on Monday.

 

Benjamin Thetsekine, 37, appeared briefly in the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday for contravening the Precious Stones Act, Captain Amanda Funani said.

 

Thetsekine was arrested on Saturday in Marikana after being found with platinum powder worth R800 000.

 

He would be back in court on February 4. – Sapa

A man arrested for police impersonification in Ikageng

potchefstroom- yesterday a 28-year-old suspect was arrested by Ikageng Police. He was found with two sets of Police uniform and a firearm at his residential place in Ikageng outside Potchefstroom north west police said.

Police followed up information received from community members” captain botma said.

O”on the 22nd of december house-breaking allegedly occurred at the residential place of an Ikageng Police Officer.  A house-breaking case was opened and he reported that his uniforms and firearm were missing” she adds.

Community members went to the police and reported that a suspect who is not a police officer spotted wearing a Police uniform on several occasions.

Police immediately responded to the information and arrested the suspect and the uniform and firearm were recovered.

A case of house-breaking and theft were registered. The suspect is expected to appear before Potchefstroom Magistrate Court on Wednesday.

A man mowed by drunken speedster in Taung

Taung-North West police are investigating a culpable homicide case after a man mowed by a speeding car.

This incident happened in the early hours of the morning at Lokaleng village near Taung.

“We not aware of the incident and I will call you immediately after talking to an Investigating Officer” Captain Botma said.

According to eyewitness Lebogang Makwele was chilling with his friends celebrating New Year when an alleged drunken-driver pounced on them and killed him immediately.

Taung police consficated the car and the driver was taken for questioning and will face culpable homicide charge.
