“We concur with Contralesa that Kgosi Thobejane has the necessary skill and diverse experience to steer the ship as he had been instrumental in addressing challenges facing traditional institutions, initiation schools, language, culture as well as the preservation indigenous knowledge systems during his tenure as general secretary under Inkosi Holomisa,” added Modise.

Mpumalanga Black Aces are the latest to feel the bite of Mamelodi Sundowns’ contentious ruling that prohibits their loan players from featuring against them.

Black Aces have Method Mwanjali, Abel Mabaso and Themba Zwane on loan from Sundowns, and all three will not be eligible to play on Wednesday night when Amazayoni welcome the log leaders to Mbombela Stadium.

On Sunday Moroka Swallows felt the pain of the absence of one of their leading scorers Edward Manqele – who is on loan from Sundowns – as they went down to the money-rich Chloorkop-based club.

Uefa president Michel Platini says if something isn’t done to address the issue of match-fixing soon, it could spiral out of control and ‘end football’.

The practice has been around for years, and last week England became the latest country affected when two men from Hastings in East Sussex were arrested.

Platini says if the problem isn’t addressed son, it could be too late.

“This is a problem that attacks football because if a result is rigged before the match is played, our sport is over,” Platini told AS.

‘SuperSport learning from current struggles’

Despite a more than convincing start to life under Cavin Johnson, it seems that currently SuperSport United are struggling to live up to their usual standards.

United fell to a 2-1 extra-time defeat to what seemed a ‘tired’ Orlando Pirates side in the semi-final of the Telkom Knockout two weeks ago, and three days later were beaten by the same margin by struggling Ajax Cape Town at home.

They’ve also surrendered their early lead at the summit of the Absa Premiership log and are now in fifth place.

Still, midfielder George Maluleka has found the silver lining in the dark times.

Cop in court for alleged drug dealing

1550824704
Cape Town – A police sergeant based at the Cape Town Central police station appeared in court on Tuesday, charged with dealing in drugs and corruption.

Cornelius Camaron Wessels, 48, appeared in the Bellville Specialised Commercial Crime Court, before magistrate Sabrina

Sonnenberg, but was not asked to plead.

According to the charge sheet, suspicions of corruption and drug dealing, allegedly involving Wessels, led to an undercover police operation in which he was arrested.

A fake arrest was carried out on a police agent, who was held in a cell.

In the course of the operation, a police captain gave a constable a parcel containing four small bags of dagga, hidden under food, and R100, last November.

The constable was to give Wessels the parcel to give to the man in the cell, and was also to give Wessels the R100 as his reward for illegally delivering the parcel to the “prisoner” in custody.

Prosecutor Ezmarelda Johnson alleges Wessels did as requested, and later corruptly accepted the R100.

In the cell, the “prisoner” opened the parcel in Wessels’s presence, and in doing so exposed the bags of dagga. Wessels had a duty to confiscate the dagga, but allegedly failed to do so.

Wessels was represented by Legal Aid attorney Hailey Lawrence, who asked for a postponement to March 3, when Wessels is expected to plead.
