MMABATHO Nursing College will resume its academic activities on Monday.

The college was closed a month ago following a violent protest by bursary holders at the college.

The health department spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane said: “The decision to resume academic activities at the college was taken on Thursday following a meeting with nursing bursary holders, parents of bursary holders, the department of health and nursing college management.
“The department will continue to create conducive learning environment at the college and urged bursary holders to work with college management on a catch-up plan to cover for lost time.”
Lekgethwane further said the department will increase monthly stipend by R1500. He said this will assist bursary holders to seek alternative accommodation while student accommodation at the college is being refurbished.
“The decision to increase stipend for bursary holders was motivated by the refusal to accept alternative accommodation organised by the department .
“We are committed to meet regularly with Student Representative Council (SRC)on issues affecting the college and bursary holders.
