Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba has excused Erick Mathoho from international duty against Ghana tomorrow due to a family bereavement.
Mathoho’s brother passed away last week, but the Kaizer Chiefs centre-back agreed to play in Bafana’s 1-1 draw with Burkina Faso in a World Cup qualifier in Ouagadougou on Saturday.
‘Tower’, however, has since returned home to Limpopo and will not feature in the friendly against the Black Stars at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
He may also miss Amakhosi’s league tie with Ajax Cape Town in Durban this Saturday.
SAFA head of communications Dominic Chimhavi confirmed that Mathoho has been released from the Bafana camp.
“Yes, I can confirm that he has been released from the camp. It was agreed that he will not be part of the game against Ghana,” Chimhavi tells KickOff.com.
Mashaba has also released Mamelodi Sundowns trio Tebogo Langerman, Hlompho Kekana and Keagan Dolly in light of the club’s upcoming CAF Champions League final first leg clash with Zamalek.
