Renovations At School For The Deaf In Leeudoringstad Underway

 THE North West Education and Sport Development department said the renovations were underway at School for the Deaf in Leeudoringstad. Department spokesperson, Elias Malindi said the department renovates the block where three school kids were burnt to death three months ago.

 “We are currently renovating the block and we hope that will be completed before January next year. We still wait for the forensic investigation reports from the police. We cannot reveal the amount spent on renovations as they are regarded as confidential. Learners were moved to Schweizer Reneke.”

 The fire razed three learners to death and that caused uproar about the safety of the learners. Katlego Diseko, 16, Bulelwa Koni, 18 and Emily Oageng, 22 died while others were left injured during the fire outbreak. One of the learners sent a short message system (sms) to her mother informing her about the fire at around 12:00am midnight.  The portfolio committee in education heard that there were no security guards at the school and the burglar door that separates the dormitory of learners and teachers was locked at the time.
