Khune was left out of the Chiefs starting XI for their Telkom Knockout Soweto Derby clash against Orlando Pirates on Saturday and replaced by Brilliant Khuzwayo.
The reason for his absence is due to his knee injury. He will have surgery on the problematic joint on Monday.
“Itumeleng Khune injured his knee during training and will be going for surgery next week. We wish him a speedy recovery,” the club tweeted.
It remains unclear how long he is due to be sidelined, but he should miss out on the Angola clash on 13 November.
