N West police killed while on patrol

The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) in the North West on Wednesday slammed the fatal shooting of a police officer who was fatally wounded following an armed robbery at the Mooinooi Shopping mall outside Brits.
 
“We condemn in the strongest terms possible the killing of the police officer and call to our communities to assist in the investigations.No stone should be left unturned until those responsible for the heinous crime are behind bars,” Provincial Chairperson, Paul Sebegoe declared.
 
Sebegoe expressed concern about the increase of business robberies ahead of the festive season and appealed for vigilance.
 
“We urge authorities to step up crime prevention operations and to  adopt zero tolerance towards opportunistic crime threatening our communities,”he said.
 
Police spokesperson Captain Paul Ramaloko said police two officers were doing their regular patrol when they came across suspects who had just staged a robbery at an Edgars store.
 
He said the police officers were not aware of the robbery.

“Two police officers came head-on with armed men who opened fire at the driver of the police van before speeding off.The officer died on the scene.”
 
Ramoloko said his colleague was unharmed in the shooting.
