Premier Modise meets Indian High Commissioner

North West Premier Mme Thandi Modise is to host a courtesy visit by the Indian High Commissioner to South Africa, His Excellency Mr. Virenra Gupta in Mahikeng this afternoon.

The aim of the visit is for the High Commissioner to introduce himself to the Premier new Indian High Commissioner and for the parties to discuss on the areas that can assist in strengthening the South Africa-Indian relations, including taking advantage of the Bricks agreements.

A number of bilateral agreements have been concluded between South Africa and India since the assumption of diplomatic relations in 1993 in diverse areas ranging from economic and commercial cooperation, defence, culture,health, human settlements, public administration ,science and technology and education.

SA U 20 Prepare for Congo

The South African National Under 20 team (Amajita) have started with preparations for the second leg of the African Youth Championship (AYC) qualifier against Congo.

The match is scheduled to take place on Saturday 11 August 2012 at the Bidvest Wits University grounds.

Kick-off is at 7.pm.

The team began camp on Sunday 05 August 2012 with medical checkups taking place on the same day.
South Africa managed to get an away goal during the 1st leg on Saturday 29 July 2012 in Congo

The Amajita squad is in ahead of the much anticipated encounter with hopes of overturning the average having secured an away goal.

Head Coach Solly Luvhengo says he and his technical team will do all in their powers to ensure not only a good performance from the young South Africans but also get a positive result to progress in the competition.

Luvhengo says despite not having all the players on the first day, the mood in camp is very good and that the whole team is looking forward to a good game.

“It is a satisfying environment with regards to the energy and overall mood, we expect it to rise even higher when all the players report for camp, we expect the last bunch on Wednesday. We also had to consider the fact that the PSL season is about to begin and this means we could not get all the players we would have liked to have for this camp. Lebo Ngobeni (Tuks), Junior Sibande (Tuks), Steve Hoffman (Wits), Asive Langwe (Wits) and Keagan Dolly of Ajax could not join us but these are the type of inconveniences you have to learn to plan for as a national team coach so we are working on finding suitable replacements to consolidate and complement the current team.

The Coach also says he was satisfied with the team’s performance away and will be hoping to build from that.

“Not much went wrong during the first leg; we just didn’t play hard enough to win. We scored first and conceded from two set pieces so maybe we should just be on the lookout for such mistakes going into this second leg,” said Luvhengo.

Luvhengo says there is no reason to panic nor make any drastic changes to the team for this encounter.

“In my view, all the players played well and represented the country well, it was just not our day. There is certainly no need to panic, we have an away goal and we should use that as a stepping stone in achieving our mandate which is qualifying for Algeria as this will also help us in qualifying for the World Cup in Turkey because the top four teams in the AYC automatically qualify for the World Cup,” said Luvhengo.
Having coached the South African National Under 17 team; Luvhengo says this is an advantage for him and his technical team as these players know what is expected from them.

“it is always a pleasure seeing these players improve technically and also grow as players this is very good for me and my team in as far as the game plan and ideas are concerned, they know what we want from them and how we want it implemented. 60 to 70 percent of these boys I have worked with before and as I said before, it helps a lot,” added the coach.

With no injury worries for the team, Luvhengo says the team will definitely do all in their powers to win the match and that the public should rally behind the team with all the support the young boys and act as the 12th player.
 

Semi-finalists decided in the AWL National Championships 2012

Free State will face North West in the first semi-final of the 2012 Absa Women’s League National Championships, while Gauteng will take on KwaZulu Natal in the other semi-final encounter.

Both matches will take place on Wednesday, 08 August 2012 at the AR Abass Stadium in Kimberly, Northern Cape, the venue of the group stage matches.

The winners of the semi-finals will contest the final on Women’s Day – Thursday, 9 August – at the Galeshewe Stadium, which will be preceded by the third-place play-off.

Gauteng finished top of Group A with 10 points from four matches. In their last game, they defeated Western Cape 4-1 with goals coming from Mavhungu Manyanya, Agnes Manzini and a brace from Kgomotso Pule, while Nicole Makoe replied for Western Cape.

North West claimed second spot in the group with seven points.

In a dead rubber, also played on Tuesday, Northern Cape beat Mpumalanga 2-1.

Hosts Northern Cape ended their campaign in third place with six points and Western Cape was fourth with three points, same as the fifth-placed Mpumalanga.

In tight-contested Group B, Free State topped the standings with seven points after brushing aside the challenge of KZN 5-0 in their last game. Two goals from Shiwe Nogwanya and one each from Jemina Tau, Noxolo Magudu and Amelia Molelangoane ensured victory for Free State.

KZN finished second with four points, one more than third-placed Eastern Cape while Limpopo ended with just two points.

This means Northern Cape, Western Cape, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape and Limpopo have all been eliminated from the tournament.

A total of 67 goals were scored in the group stages with Gauteng top scoring with 13 goals, followed by North West on 12 and Free State on 11.

Mpumalanga had a porous defence, letting in 13 goals, while Western Cape and Northern Cape conceded 12 and 10 goals respectively in Group A.

Free State’s Nogwanya is the current leading goal scorer with seven to her name. Palesa Mvala of North West, Agnes Manzini of Gauteng and Meliza Kruger of Northern Cape are tied on four goals each.

Six players, Dikome Tshenolo (North West); Lerato Mahamutsa (Mpumalanga); Mavhungu Manyanya and Kgomotso Pule (both Gauteng); Sandisiwe Nohayi (Eastern Cape) and Sthembile Shange (KZN), have found the back of the net three times each.

North West Premier Modise intensifies onslaught against corruption

Stakeholders from across all sectors in the North West Province are to consider measures to uproot unethical behaviour that contributes towards the scourge of corruption. The two-day roundtable hosted by Premier Mme Thandi Modise is to be held at the Madiba Banquet Hall in Potchefstroom as from Thursday 16-17 August 2012.

The objective of the roundtable to be held at Madiba Bangiet Halls in Potchefstroom is to establish and emphasise the importance of ethical standards, manage, communicate and enforce ethical standards towards corruption-free work environments.

It also intends creating a platform to unpack discussions on ethics, morals, values and integrity as part of intensifying the fight against the scourge of corruption in the business, public and civic society sectors and emphasis on Corporate Governance in the work place.  

“Corruption is the new enemy that needs to be fought with renewed vigour wherever it raises its ugly head as it stifles growth and development. It is the biggest and toughest enemy against black empowerment, wealth creation and income distribution. Undoubtedly, corruption destroys business ethics and is consequently unethical, it is unfair, it makes prices of goods soar making it unaffordable to the vulnerable and poor in our society,” Premier Modise who is the Chairperson of the Provincial Anti-Corruption Forum.

The seminar advances the Provincial Anti-Corruption Forum’s programme of action for a holistic and integrated approach to the fight against corruption, build a framework for the Provincial integrity and ensure a continued awareness to prevent and combat corruption, in order to entrench and deepen the fight against corruption.

 

Premier Thandi Modise will deliver the keynote address during the opening session on Thursday morning.

 

On the first day of the seminar, high-profiled speakers will present papers on:

 

  • The role of religion in promoting integrity within society (Dr. Mathole Motshekga-Chief Whip of the Majority Party in the National Assembly and Representative of the National Religious Leaders Forum,)
  •  Moral Regeneration( Father Smangaliso Mkhatshwa, CEO : Moral Regeneration Movement),
  • Ethics (Mr Kris Dobbie, Chairperson: Ethics South Africa)
  • Moral Ethical Dillemas/The Law and Society( Hon Justice Yvonne Mokgoro)
  • State of Professional Ethics in the Public Sector (Ms Selina Nkosi : Office of Public Service Commission),
  • The role of the Public Protector in the fight against fraud and corruption (Adv Thuli Madonsela: Public Protector),
  • Organisational Culture and its impact on Ethical Decision Making by Prof. Jonathan Jansen: University of Free State)
  • The consequences of fraud and corruption in respect of financial reporting in the province. (Mr. Liaquath Ally: Business Executive Provincial Office of Auditor General),
  • Why do people do bad things? Temptations, Ethical risks and resulting red flags (Prof David Mosoma: University of South Africa),
  • How corruption impairs on national strategic operations service delivery (Prof Shadrack Gutto: University of South Africa),
  •  The role of the Business Sector in promoting integrity in the workplace (Mr Seboka).
  • Deputy Rector of North West University, Prof. Mosimegi will also deliver message of support on behalf of the university.

  • How the national Anti-Corruption Hotline contributes towards professional ethics in the public sector( Mr.Modau-Office of the Public Service Commission)

  • Minimum Anti-Corruption Capacity in Departments :A provincial comparison(Prof Richard Levin-Director General Department of Public Service and Administration)
  • The role of investigative journalism in promoting integrity in the public service ( Prof. Mariette Dechavonnesvruygt )
  • Government statistics on fraud and corruption in the province with more emphasis on government cases, and lack of moral values in the society at large(Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mbombo-SAPS)

 

 

Members of the media are invited to cover the learning gala networking dinner at which Premier Modise will deliver keynote address on Wednesday evening and the two days of the roundtable.

 

 

BOMBING AT DROP SAFE, AT MMABATHO GARAGE..

Bombing of drop off safe at Unit 7 Caltex garage at about  02:00 AM, on 2012 – 08 – 07. The drop off safe was smashed with an explosive device used where the impact of the explosion also smashed the nearest petrol pump.

The lid of the pump fell next to the second petrol pump which indicates the severity of the impact.

 

 According to the eye witness, is that a male person was seen running away from the scene towards the Western direction of the garage.

The alleged suspect was seen carrying a black bag. It is also reported that in a short while a silver grey Polo VW vehicle driven was seen driving in a slow and suspiciouss manner towards the garage.

It was the immediate response from the garage security company where in arrival of the security the alleged vehicle drove off in a high speed.

The Police were summoned to the scene and the investigation continues. No injuries or death were reporded.
