29 October 2026 – The North West Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Arthur Adams has expressed sadness following the death of another South African Police Service (SAPS) member, who lost his life in a vehicle accident, while responding to a complaint in Biesiesvlei. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, 25 October 2026, when two on duty SAPS members attached to Biesiesvlei Police Station were involved in an accident, while travelling in a police vehicle to attend to a complaint.

Adams said it is alleged that whilst driving on a dirt road, the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned. He further said one of the members, Sergeant Monnapule Richard Modise (40), was declared dead at the scene.

“The second member, a constable (35), sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment, where he was treated and released. We convey our condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Modise.

“We also wish the injured member a speedy recovery and assured the affected families and colleagues of the SAPS’s support during this painful period. Modise served the South African Police Service (SAPS) with dedication and commitment for about 17 years. His untimely passing is a painful loss to the organisation, his colleagues and the community he served,” added Adams.

He said may the family of the deceased find strength and comfort in the knowledge that his years of service and contribution to the safety of the communities will not be forgotten. Adams said a culpable homicide case is under investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
