5 October 2026 – North West Premier, Lazarus Mokgosi has expressed appreciation to teachers across the province for their contribution to education and the development of young people. Mokgosi was speaking as South Africa and the international community commemorate World Teachers’ Day under the theme: “Standing with Teachers: 60 Years of Protecting the Profession, Advancing its Status and Shaping our Futures.”
“The theme highlights the important role teachers have played in nurturing knowledge, fostering critical thinking, building character and preparing young people to become active citizens and future leaders.
“Teachers are the architects of human development. Every doctor, engineer, artisan, entrepreneur, public servant, and community leader has been guided by the wisdom, patience and dedication of a teacher,” he said.
Mokgosi further said teachers’ responsibilities extend beyond the classroom, with educators also serving as mentors, counsellors, role models and custodians of hope for young people. He added that teachers in the North West remain central to achieving quality education, social transformation and economic development, while contributing to the building of a capable and developmental state.
“We acknowledge the challenges educators face, including resource constraints and the changing demands of a rapidly evolving world. Despite these challenges, our educators remain steadfast in their commitment to nurturing young minds and unlocking the potential of every learner.
“We call for stronger partnerships between government, parents, communities and the education sector to create conducive teaching and learning environments, protect the dignity of educators and promote excellence in education,” said Mokgosi.
He said investment in education was an investment in the collective future of the province. Mokgosi said to all teachers across the province, they say thank you for your unwavering dedication, sacrifices and commitment to the development of the children and the nation.
“Your work shapes destinies, transforms communities and lays the foundation for a better North West,” he said.
