Premier Modise commends arrest of six policemen for alleged involvement in business robberies

Ruatenburg- The arrest of six North West policemen for allegations of involvement in business robberies around Rustenburg should restore the confidence of the public in the ability of the police to cleanse themselves of rogue elements within the police service, Premier Thandi Modise said on Monday.

“The involvement of police in crime undermines the confidence that the public has on law enforcement hence we commend intensified efforts to uproot elements within the police service involved in crime. There should be no place in the police service for those who run with the hares and hunt with the hounds,” said Premier Modise in commenting police for the arrests.
Modise said that the arrests of four Tlhabane detectives and two crime intelligence officers who appeared in the Rustenburg Magistrate Court on Monday after their arrest in two unrelated cases separate incidents over the weekend marks the highlight of the success of the festive season operation duty calls which did not give criminals breathing space.

The six were remanded in police custody pending their next court appearance for formal bail application.

Meanwhile, Premier Modise has also called for an investigation into the circumstance surrounding the accidental shooting of a member of the police service by a colleague during a raid at a robbery suspect’s house in Lefaragatlhe near Tlhabane.-TDN

DA: Thandi Modise insults the North West

Mahikeng-Premier Thandi Modise’s excuses for buying a R1.3 million BMW 750i is a slap in the face for the people of North West, says DA Chris Hattingh.

Three months ago, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan promised South Africans that government would spend less on wasteful and luxurious items like expensive cars and alcohol.

“Premier Modise simply ignored the new policy and bought herself the most expensive car she could find. Her excuse that the car had been ordered before Minister Gordhan’s announcement is complete nonsense.
All it would have taken to cancel the order is one phone call to the dealer in Mahikeng. Instead, Premier Modise went through with it, even after the Treasury suggested a more affordable BMW 530 instead” Hattingh said.

According to DA politicians in President Zuma’s ANC always go for the most expensive and luxurious option at the tax payers’ expense and it must stop.

“This waste cannot continue while people live in poverty without proper service delivery. The Premier must appear before the North West Provincial Public Accounts Committee to explain her decision to buy the car” concludes Chris Hattingh.-TDN
