The High Court in Stilfontein near Klerksdorp in the North West, is on Friday, expected to pass judgment on the murder trial against an Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) member in the North West provincial legislature, Papiki Babuile and seven co-accused.
They are all accused in the murder of former African National Congress (ANC) regional secretary in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda region, David Chika.
Chika was killed in December 2012.

Johannnesburg – The murderous Islamic State (Isis) is active in South Africa and has been recruiting citizens to fight in Iraq and Syria. So far, three have died fighting for the terrorist group.
Iraq’s ambassador to South Africa, Dr Hushaim al-Alawi, said on Saturday that the men’s deaths were subsequently covered up as car accidents. The trio had travelled to Syria separately.

Public Protector Thuli Madonsela has filed her application to contest a judgment that deemed her findings and remedial actions not binding.
“The court will let us know when they have considered our notice,” said the Protector’s spokesman Oupa Segalwe on Sunday.
Earlier this month, Madonsela filed the application to appeal the Western Cape High Court judgment — related to a case between the Democratic Alliance and the SABC and its chief operating officer (COO) Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

Member nations of the Council of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA) have resolved not to accept the invitation of the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) to attend the opening of the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco next month.
This principled stance has been taken in solidarity with CAF, who stripped Morocco of the right to host the 2015 Orange Africa Cup of Nations Final Tournament after FRMF insisted the tournament be postponed over fears of the Ebola virus.

Johannesburg – The appointment of Fikile-Ntsikelelo Moya as editor of the Mercury newspaper showed Independent Media’s commitment to media transformation, the ANC said on Saturday.
“Moya’s appointment… shows that the Independent Media pays attention to transformation,” African National Congress KwaZulu-Natal provincial secretary, Sihle Zikalala said in a statement.
“Moya’s appointment brings hope that one day our country will have a completely transformed media industry at all levels.”
On Wednesday, Independent Media announced Moya’s appointment to head the KwaZulu-Natal publication.
Moya’s appointment formed part of its strategy to recruit and retain the industry’s top editorial talent, with the Mercury the company’s flagship publication in the province, the company said at the time.
“This announcement follows that of several senior appointments made by the company over the past few months.”
Moya, currently the executive editor at Pretoria News, would take up his new post on 1 December.
Zikalala said transformation in the media industry was not moving at adequate speed.
“It is an unquestionable truth that despite numerous calls for the media industry to transform, the process of transformation has been moving at a snail’s pace in some media organisations in the province of KwaZulu-Natal in particular.”
He added that several media institutions “continued to pay lip service to transformation.”
“The media ownership still remains in the hands of the few and it is highly monopolised while news rooms also remain largely not transformed.”
The party urged media institutions, particularly those in KwaZulu-Natal, to commit towards transformation and to “emulate the good move which has been done by the Independent Media.”
Zikalala said the ANC would continue to engage with media houses to ensure that transformation takes place.
“While the media is privately owned, it services the interests of the people hence it should reflect the true demographics of the people it serves.”

George Lebese cancelled out Teko Modise’s goal, as Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns played out to a 1-1 draw at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Sundowns started the better of the two sides and dominated possession for most of the opening exchanges.
However, it was Chiefs who had the first chance of the half, as Siphiwe Tshabalala picked out Kingston Nkhatha, who failed to trouble Kennedy Mweene from close range.
That proved to be the best chance of the half and Stuart Baxter’s side started to see more of the ball as the half drew to a close, with Tshabalala proving to be their liveliest player.

Durban – A 55-year-old woman has been arrested for the abuse and murder of a 2-year-old girl, believed to be her grandchild, in Havenside, Chatsworth on Thursday.
Havenside ward councillor, Brandon Pillay, said neighbours had told him the grandmother had called the neighbours for help after she found the child was not breathing.
“The child was found with brutal injuries. She could have either been tied up or twisted on her arms.

Taung – A man was arrested in North West on Thursday for his alleged role in the murder of a 41-year old man and rape of a woman, police said.
Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said the 21-year-old was arrested in Buxton Village, about 6km from Taung.
The man’s alleged accomplice was killed in a confrontation with police in Taung’s Extension Six early on Thursday morning. The 24-year-old allegedly tried to stab police officers who had come to arrest him.
The two men allegedly kidnapped Ephraime Thejane, 41, and his female companion after hijacking them on Sunday. Thejane was taken from the car and shot dead.
The woman was taken to the nearby Dryharts area where the two men allegedly raped her.
Thejane’s body was found in a stream in Matolong village on Tuesday.
The 21-year old is expected to appear in court soon on charges of hijacking, kidnaping, murder, and rape.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate had been called to investigate the 24-year old’s death, Mokgwabone said.

Bafana Bafana returned home to a hero’s welcome at the OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday, 20 November with enthusiastic fans singing and dancing as they welcomed the national team back home.
The South Africans were in Nigeria for the last qualifier of the CAF Orange Africa Cup of Nations Equatorial Guinea 2015 tournament.
Bafana Bafana played to a 2-2 draw with the Super Eagles on Wednesday, 19 November in Uyo, Nigeria.
Head coach Shakes Mashaba said he was proud of his charges but at the same time disappointed that they did not finish off Nigeria when they had a chance to do so.
With history on the side of the hosts many had hope it was going to be a one way traffic in favour of Nigeria as has been case over the years – but the brave and relatively young South Africans took the game to Nigeria and raced to a 2-0 lead with goals from Tokelo Rantie.
The silence in the newly-built Akwa Ibom Stadium was deafening as the local fans faced the prospect of the African champion unable to defend their crown won in South Africa last year.
But Nigeria clawed their way back after South Africa lost Reneilwe Letsholonyane for his second bookable offence early in the second half. The Super Eagles scored two goals to level the tie.
“Everybody wants the points and it would have been good if we had won this game with a good number of points at the top of the group. But unfortunately we didn’t do that, we lost the game in the last five minutes – referee’s optional time, which is what worries me, we need to go back and work on it. But our boys did very well, this Nigeria team is a very good side as you saw by their tactical awareness and their match intelligence was from the top drawer, but our boys stood firm,” said Mashaba.
“The red card also disorganised us. You could have seen in the second half that we lost shape. We found ourselves crowding the goal area, though it helped at times but we should have taken the game to them after the red card because we had two breaks and should have scored at least one. Anyway that is how the game goes. We played strong teams in this group, so it says the boys are ready for Equatorial Guinea.”
The Bafana Bafana mentor said the players gave a good account of themselves throughout the entire campaign even they were not expected to.
“When we started the qualifiers there was no mandate but we were asked to build a new side. In life, in whatever you do, you want to succeed. Mandate or no mandate, I would not like to see us building a good side and losing all the games. We have surpassed ourselves (all South Africans) to be where we are today because when it was announced that there is no mandate for AFCON 2015, everyone thought we were going to relax,” added Mashaba.
“I must compliment the boys, they played above themselves. I would not want to write a negative legacy for myself. If we didn’t have to win games then our successors would have no pressure and no targets. So it was important for us to get here for future generations to know what South African football is all about. Everybody wants to leave a mark and I am no different. I must also thank the South African Football Association for all the support given to the team.”

MAHIKENG – Bokone Bophirima Premier Supra Mahumapelo today, Thursday 20th November 2014, visited two families of the worshippers who died when a guesthouse collapsed in Lagos, Nigeria at their homes to convey a message of condolence before their burial on Saturday.
Premier Mahumapelo, accompanied by Social Development MEC Fenny Gaolaolwe and Rural, Environment and Agricultural Development MEC Manketsi Tlhape visited the families of Goitseone Mogoelwa in Montshioa and Mpho Seakamela in Riviera Park, Mahikeng.
“It is very sad to lose a family member. We understand the pain and I would like to say to the family: trust in God because he is the only one who knows everything. I want to assure you that we are with you as the provincial government during this difficult moment and that we pray for God to be with you at all the times,” said Premier Mahumapelo.
He told the families that government will always support community members during difficulties. He also thanked the National Government for making sure that the bodies were returned to the families to be buried properly.
“As a Province, we really thank our National Government in assisting your families by returning the remains of your loved ones so that you can get closure after enduring two months of uncertainty and pain,” he said.
Oupa Mogatusi, a brother to one of the deceased expressed his appreciation for the assistance the family received from government. “We have received a lot of help from government since the beginning of this ordeal. They played a huge role in making sure that this body is here for us to bury our sister,” he said.
The victims were amongst the over one hundred people who died when a guest house belonging to the Synagogue Church of All Nations headed by Pastor TB Joshua collapsed in Lagos in September.
