27 October 2025- A stock-theft case against two men, Moagi Motlhabane (27) and Sipho Tobi (27), has been postponed until 25 November 2025. Motlhabane and Tobi were arrested on 20 and 21 October 2025, by the members of Lehurutshe Stock Theft and Endangered Species (STES) Unit at Brakkuil and Koffiekraal villages, in Madikwe on 17 October 2025.
The North West police spokesperson, Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said the pair was arrested following the theft of 11 cattle worth R254 000, on 16 October 2025. Mokgwabone said after becoming aware of the incident, the farmer searched around the farm and found one of the cattle and a calf, but bearing new brand marks.
“Ensuing police investigations identified the registered owner of the brand mark. Information was later received and followed up regarding a speculator who was about to auction cattle, including the one with a new brand mark. The questioning of the speculator at the Zeerust Auction culminated in the impounding of the cattle and the recovery of the farmer’s five cattle.
“Motlhabane granted a R3000 bail upon appearance before the Zeerust Magistrate’s Court, while Tobi, who is from Lesotho, abandoned the bail application. He is also facing a further charge of contravention of the Immigration Act, 2002. Investigations into the matter continue,” he said.
Meanwhile, the acting North West Police Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo welcomed the arrest.

26 October 2025- The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) said it can confirm that a light aircraft reportedly crashed into a tuck shop at Hoërskool Alberton in Ekurhuleni earlier this morning on 26 October 2025. The department said the circumstances around the incident are under investigation by relevant authorities.
The Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson, Steve Mabona said the pilot and the instructor, who were on board the aircraft, reportedly sustained no injuries. Mabona said the department can confirm that this incident will not disrupt schooling activities or the ongoing National Senior Certificate (NSC) final examinations.
“Parents have been advised to ensure that learners bring their own food to school while repairs are being arranged. The GDE commends the school’s management, emergency services and aviation authorities for their prompt response to this sudden incident,” he said.
26 October 2025- The aggrieved students at Taung Agricultural College (TAC) call on the North West Premier, Lazarus Mokgosi to ascend to their college and listen to their plea. The students embarked on a peaceful protest that turned violent on Friday, demanding answers from the TAC management regarding the dilapidating hostels, lack of water, ill-treatment and alleged sexual harassment.
According to the students, the hostels that they are staying in are in an appalling condition, including ablution facilities. They also alleged that there is only one washing machine working and that makes it difficult for them to do their laundry timeously.
Students also complained about lack of internet, while female students alleged that some male lecturers would make sexual advances to them, but ill-treat them when rejected.
The Student Representative Council (SRC) president, Obakeng Modise said they have been requesting the college management including the North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to address their pleas as they are essential amenities, but nothing has been done thus far. Modise said the lack of water is likely a violation of human rights and the only thing that was fixed thus far was the generator.
The North West MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Madoda Sambatha said: “The Head of Department (HOD) and other departmental officials working with SRC president of the college, have convened a management and SRC meeting with me today at 6pm. The aim of the meeting is to get a sense of what has happened in the past few days at the campus.”
“Management must prepare a report including progress on issues raised by the students. This should include the report on the matter of complaints that were supposed to be sent to the HOD office through email. The SRC must bring its members with their own submission of what has happened and what are the pending matters from their side.”
Sambatha further said communication must be done properly and urgently.
On Friday, the police were allegedly seen on videos that have since gone viral on various social media platforms shooting at the students with rubber bullets. It is alleged that some of the students were hospitalised due to injuries, while others locked themselves in their rooms.
The North West police spokesperson, Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said the police dispersed students, who had blocked the college entrance and Taung main road to maintain order. Mokgwabone added that was after the students allegedly pelted the police with stones.
Meanwhile, the SRC president, Obakeng Modise said: “We are not going to be part of that meeting because we have been complaining to the same management and MEC. So, we need North West Premier, Lazarus Mokgosi to come and listen to our grievances. We have submitted our report, which was not handled promptly.
“Now, we want to escalate the complaint to a higher authority, which is Mokgosi. The management does not take us seriously and takes its time to attend to our complaints. Remember, some situations may require immediate action, which is foreign to the college management.”

“The suspects are expected to appear in court soon. 25 October 2025- The African National Congress (ANC) said it welcomes the announcement that South Africa has officially been removed from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list. The ANC said South Africa’s removal from the grey list is a direct outcome of decisive and coordinated action taken across the Government of Unity (GNU), law enforcement, regulatory bodies and the financial sector.
The ANC national spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu said over the past two years, the country has implemented comprehensive reforms to address the deficiencies identified by the FATF. Bhengu said this development is a vote of confidence in the country’s reform agenda and in their determination to ensure accountability, transparency and ethical governance.
“The ANC commends the leadership of the South African government, under President Cyril Ramaphosa, for driving this turnaround and for demonstrating that South Africa is serious about restoring confidence in its institutions and financial systems. The fight against corruption, financial crime, and illicit financial flows must remain a national priority, not only to meet international standards but to safeguard the integrity of our democracy and ensure that public resources are used for the benefit of the people,” she said.
