25 October 2025- The African National Congress (ANC) said it welcomes the announcement that South Africa has officially been removed from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list. The ANC said South Africa’s removal from the grey list is a direct outcome of decisive and coordinated action taken across the Government of Unity (GNU), law enforcement, regulatory bodies and the financial sector.
The ANC national spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu said over the past two years, the country has implemented comprehensive reforms to address the deficiencies identified by the FATF. Bhengu said this development is a vote of confidence in the country’s reform agenda and in their determination to ensure accountability, transparency and ethical governance.
“The ANC commends the leadership of the South African government, under President Cyril Ramaphosa, for driving this turnaround and for demonstrating that South Africa is serious about restoring confidence in its institutions and financial systems. The fight against corruption, financial crime, and illicit financial flows must remain a national priority, not only to meet international standards but to safeguard the integrity of our democracy and ensure that public resources are used for the benefit of the people,” she said.
25 October 2025- The Activists and Citizens Forum said the explosive testimony of witnesses A, B and C at the Madlanga Commission must not be taken lightly. The forum said they have made very serious allegations against senior police officers and produced evidence.
The Chairperson of Activists and Citizens Forum, Dennis Bloem said wWhilst they are aware that it is still allegations, the country cannot afford to have senior police officers linked to criminal syndicates and with dark clouds hanging over their heads. Bloem alleged that they are a danger to the safety and security of the country.
He further said it will be grossly irresponsible of the acting Minister of Police Feroz Chachalia and President Cyril Ramaphosa, to treat these allegations lightly and not remove these implicated officers from the system. Bloem added that Ramaphosa cannot wait for the finalisation of the commission.
“These officers will do more damage to the already badly damaged image of the police. If these senior officers stay on in their offices, the lives of the Political Killings Task Team investigators will be in danger. Anything can happen to them anytime. These investigators are already in hiding.
“We believe that the scary revelations before the Madlanga Commission and the Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee, clearly show not only infiltration of the criminal justice system but it is the capture of the Criminal Justice System by sophisticated criminal gangs and politicians,” he said.
Bloem said they call for the removal of these police officers.
25 October 2025- Banyana Banyana has picked up the tempo ahead of their return Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against DR Congo at the Dobsonville Stadium in Johannesburg on 28 October 2025. The camp was buzzing with energy yesterday as the team held its first training session with the entire squad present, marking an important moment in the build-up to the second leg WAFCON qualifier against DR Congo.
This was the first full training session with the addition of the team’s overseas-based stars Thembi Kgatlana, Hilda Magaia, Sinoxolo Cesane, and Amogelang Motau, all of whom rejoined the squad after club commitments abroad. Their arrival brings both experience and energy to the camp as South Africa look to secure their place at WAFCON 2026, following a hard-fought 1–1 draw in Kinshasa. With the full group now assembled, two players, Regina Mogolola and Thato Mofolo, have been placed on standby.
The technical team will now focus on fine-tuning tactical details and building cohesion among the returning players and those who featured in the first leg.
Banyana Banyana coach Thinasonke Mbuli expressed her satisfaction with the group’s readiness and outlined the plan for the days leading up to match day.
“We are happy now that everyone is in camp. Today is our start-up with everyone in training, and from tomorrow we’ll start focusing on our tactics. The good thing is we have three days to prepare for the match.
“Having the full team available has boosted morale within the camp. Thembi Kgatlana, one of South Africa’s most decorated players, spoke about her excitement to be back in national colours and her determination to help the team finish the job at home.
“It’s amazing, always an honour to come back and represent the country. I’m in good spirits and I’m healthy,” she said with a smile after training,” she said.
There was also a sense of inspiration from the younger members of the squad, including a rising talent, Bonolo Mokoma (17), who reflected on what it means to be part of Banyana Banyana at such an early stage of her career.
“Making the Banyana Banyana team at the age of 17 is a huge opportunity for me because there are a lot of young girls dreaming to be in my position, and here I am at the age of 17,” she said.
With all focus now shifting toward the second leg, the team will spend the coming days working on tactical organization to ensure they’re at their sharpest on match day. Having secured an away goal in Kinshasa, Banyana Banyana go into the return fixture with confidence but are under no illusions about the challenge ahead against a DRC side that has shown resilience throughout the qualifiers.

24 October 2025- The John Taolo Gaetsewe District Police Management welcomed the conviction and sentencing of Renhard Jonkers in the Kathu Regional Court recently. On 2 November 2017, Siyathemba Police attended a complaint of murder in Chris Hani Street in Siyathemba.
The Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Shemane said it was reported that the deceased and accused had an altercation that led to the fatal stabbing of a victim, Emial van Dyk (23). Shemane said the accused who was 18 years-old at the time of the incident was arrested immediately and appeared in court.
“On 21 October 2025, Kathu Regional Court convicted and sentenced Renhard Jonkers to eight years imprisonment, of which two years were suspended for five years,” he said.
Meanwhile, the acting John Taolo Gaetsewe District Police Commissioner, Brigadier Kenneth Baloyi, applauded Detective Warrant Officer George Miles from Kathu Detective for ensuring that the accused is convicted and incarcerated for this heinous act.
24 October 2025- The ANC said it has noted with grave concern the incidence of violence that took place on 16 October 2025 against a pupil in the Milnerton High School in Cape Town, Western Cape. The party said it has noted the contents of the video that showed pupils of the said school actively involved in this incident.
The ANC national spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu said they welcome the statements made by the Western Cape ANC Women’s League, the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Basic Education and commends the school, education district and the Western Cape Provincial Department of Education for the actions that have been taken thus far. Bhengu said they are awaiting the outcome of these good efforts.
“The ANC is also aware of allegations by some learners that Milnerton High School has on several occasions not acted when incidents of bullying and racism were reported to relevant authorities. These allegations deserve to be investigated by neutral parties and acted upon by the school management, if found to be true.
“The ANC condemns all forms of violence. In the same breath, it condemns incidents of violence in schools and subsequent demonstrations that disrupt learning and compromise the atmosphere where the doors of learning are open to all,” she said.
Bhengu further said it is unacceptable for anyone to dismiss these incidents or to accept them as bad behaviour that reflects the moral decadence of society today. She added that every community, society or state has a duty to constantly improve itself to become the best.
“The ANC call upon all stakeholders in education, firstly to parents and family members to play their part in the cultivation of a culture of respect and discipline amongst their children, as the family is the most important unit that instils good values into these youth and learners and secondly to the learners, teachers, school governing bodies and all other stakeholders such as teacher unions, to play their part in contributing to the cultivation of a culture where respect, good conduct, punctuality, diligence and maintenance of law and order in schools and educational institutions becomes the norm.
“The ANC calls for a thorough investigation of this incident of violence against a learner, which happened at the Milnerton High School in Cape Town on 16 October 2025. The ANC also calls upon all stakeholders in education to work together to find sustainable solutions that will assist all schools, education districts, provincial departments of education to put in place a simple and effective system that will restore discipline, respect and law and order in schools permanently in schools across the length and breadth of our country, South Africa,” said Bhengu.
