Makhadzi pulled a ‘no show’ in Makwassie due non-payment

27 December 2024- South African singer, Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, who is affectionately known as Makhadzi, came out guns blazing and squashed the allegations that, she failed to pitch up for a scheduled event at Kwas London Annual Fun Game and Music Festival in Makwassie, near Wolmaranstad in North West on 26 December 2024.

According to allegations, Makhadzi was booked to perform at the event held at Makwassie Stadium, however, she pulled a ‘no show’. This led to aggrieved patrons setting the stage and sound equipment worth R3 million ablaze in confrontation.    

The police in Makwassie have since launched a manhunt following the malicious damage to property incidents that occurred at approximately 05:15am on 27 December 2024.

The North West police spokesperson, Colonel Adele Myburgh said the investigations into the incident are underway and no arrest has been effected.

“The police request anyone who may have information that can assist in the investigation to contact the Station Commander of Makwassie, Capt Bereng Hlasa, on 082 575 8377 or the South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.

“Anonymous tip-offs can also be communicated via the MySAPS App from your smartphone,” she said.

Meanwhile, Makhadzi said in a statement: “We are pleased to announce that Makhadzi was scheduled to perform at the Kwas London Annual Fun Game and Music Festival in Makwassie. The promoter, Ishmael, reached out to us for this engagement, and we agreed on a fee of R180 000.

“On 19 November 2024, a contract was provided to the promoter, which specified that a 50% deposit must be received prior to any promotional activities on social media. Additionally, the full payment was required 14 days before the event.”

She further said following this agreement, a deposit was received along with R3000 for promotional video. Makhadzi added that, unfortunately, the promoter did not reach the agreement as per contract by failing to pay the balance within 14 days’ period.

“Please note that Makhadzi and her travelling team are informed of events only after all payments have been confirmed in accordance with the terms and conditions outlined in the contract.

“So, we did not receive the balance within 14 days’ period. We sincerely apologise to our dedicated fans in Makwassie. We are looking forward to seeing you soon,” said Makhadzi.

Parents nabbed for allegedly neglecting their 14-months-old daughter

27 December 2024 – A mother (21) and father (26), briefly appeared before the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on 24 December 2024, for the alleged neglect of their 14 month-old baby girl in Tigane Township, near Hartbeesfontein.

The North West police spokesperson, Colonel Adele Myburgh said this comes after an incident, where police were called to a house in the early hours of Monday morning, 23 December 2024. Myburgh said the police were shown an abandoned baby girl, who was found crying in front of a yard.

“Initial police investigations indicated that the parents allegedly left their baby at home and went to a nearby tavern. Later, the mother sent the father back home to fetch the child, but he left the baby in the street after allegedly being chased by unknown person’s.

“The parents went to the police station when they could not find their child and were immediately arrested. The Department of Social Development was contacted and the baby was placed in the care of a relative,” she said.

Myburgh further said the accused persons were granted a R300 bail each. She added that their matter was postponed until 5 February 2025.

Meanwhile, the acting North West Police Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng, condemned the incident and indicated that the child was neglected by someone, who was supposed to protect her. Asaneng urged all parents to always know where their children are, especially during the festive season and said the police will continue to work hard to ensure successful prosecution.

27 December 2024– The police in Makwassie have launched a manhunt following the malicious damage to property incidents that occurred at approximately 05:15am on 27 December 2024, at the Makwassie Stadium, near Wolmaranstad.

This comes after patrons who attended the Annual Fun Games and Music Festival, allegedly went on rampage and burned the stage and sound equipment worth R3 million, after the leading South Africa singer, Makhadzi who is christened Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, did not pitch up.

A policeman arrested for attempted murder after allegedly shooting a civilian

26 December 2024- A police officer (34) is expected to appear in the Ganyesa Magistrate’s Court on 27 December 2024, for attempted murder. A police officer, who is a constable attached to Bray Police Station, was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning, 24 December 2024, in Ganyesa.

The North West police spokesperson, Colonel Adele Myburgh said the suspect was apprehended after he allegedly shot a victim (21) at a local tavern. Myburgh said the victim was rushed to a local hospital, where he was admitted in a serious condition.

“A 9mm pistol was seized and the matter was referred to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) for further investigation,” she said.

Meanwhile, The acting North West Police Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng, welcomed the arrest and thanked the police for their continued efforts. Asaneng also reiterated that employees involved in criminal conduct will not be condoned in the service.

A motorist nabbed for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and culpable homicide

26 December 2024- A 29-YEAR-OLD motorist is expected to appear before the Brits Magistrate’s Court on 27 December 2022, facing culpable homicide and driving under the influence case. This comes after the motorist’s arrest by the police in Hartbeespoortdam on Wednesday late afternoon, 25 December 2024.

According to the North West police spokesperson, Colonel Adele Mybugh, the police were informed about a black Volkswagen Amarok bakkie that collided with a mother and two children in Kosmos at Simon Bekker Avenue in Hartbeespoortdam. Myburgh said at the accident scene, a girl (5) was certified dead by the Emergency and Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) paramedics.

“The second victim (22), who is the mother of the two children, was taken to a local hospital and admitted with serious head injuries and the third victim, who is a baby girl, was also admitted in hospital in a serious condition,” she said.

Myburgh further said suspect was immediately arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or a drug with a narcotic effect and culpable homicide.

Meanwhile, the acting North West Police Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng, warned motorists to refrain from drinking and driving as the police and other law enforcement agencies will not hesitate to enforce the National Road Traffic Act, 1996 (Act No. 93 of 1996), to ensure that those who transgress the law are dealt with accordingly as part of road safety management and Safer Festive operations.

Ten suspects arrested for dealing in drugs in Pampierstad

26 December 2024- Ten suspects aged between 22 and 42, were arrested in Pampierstad for allegedly dealing in suspected drugs and possession of suspected drugs. The suspects were arrested in collective efforts by Operation Vala Umgodi.

The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Molefi Shemane said the police followed up on intelligence-driven information regarding the alleged sale of drugs in different premises in Pampierstad on 25 December 2024. Shemane said the police allegedly seized a significant amount of drugs with an estimated street value of R 240 000 and cash believed to be the proceeds of drug sales.

“In a separate incident, two suspects aged 51 and 52, were arrested for dealing in suspected drugs. The Frances Baard District management thanked community members for continually providing valuable information that led to the arrest of the suspects and the removal of drugs from the streets.

“The police also encourage community members to report illegal mining and other related crimes to the police crime stop number on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS app,” he said.

25 December 2024- A nurse from Joe Morolong Memorial Hospital in Vryburg, Constance Kanatu, honoured for her compassion and commitment. Kanatu scooped R15 000, after she received the 2024 Most Caring Nurse award in the country at the DENOSA Gala Dinner held at Sheraton Hotel in Pretoria recently.

According to DENOSA, the awards came about to honour the nursing staff for their compassion, commitment, love and dedication shown to patients.

“Kanatu is a professional nurse specialising in Ophthalmology. She was awarded with the Marilyn Lahana Caring National Award, named after Marilyn Lahana, a Johannesburg nurse from Johannesburg, who died after contracting Ebola virus after she cared for the patient selflessly.

“DENOSA administers the awarding of the Marilyn Lahana Caring Award to any deserving nurse voted for by fellow nurses in the workplace, who has shown outstanding commitment and selfless dedication to patient care,” the union said.

It further said Kanatu went home with a trophy, a certificate, and a R15 000 prize money. DENOSA added that as an ophthalmic nurse working without any doctor who is stationed at the facility, she is constantly faced with the challenge of referring all her patients who need higher care for their eye problems to other facilities.

“Taking the second place as the 1st runner-up at the awards was Majikela Dlangamandla from the Western Cape, who took home a trophy, a certificate, and R7500 in prize money.

“Coming in third position as a 2nd runner-up, was Mampe Konyama from Free State, who took home a trophy, a certificate, and a R5000 prize money. DENOSA congratulates and is proud of all the winners.”

Meanwhile, the union said their hard-work is promoting the nursing profession in the eyes of the public.

Number of new babies born on Christmas Day in North West increases to 79

25 December 2024- The number of babies born on Christmas Day in various healthcare centres across the North West province since 00:00, has been increased to 79. Of these Christmas Day babies, 44 are males and 35 are females.

The North West MEC for Health, Sello Lehari said all mothers are in good condition with no complications reported. Lehari said Bojanala District is the biggest in the province after delivering more babies thus far.

This was followed by Dr Kenneth Kaunda District, Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District and Ngaka Modiri Molema District.

Lehari, accompanied by acting Superintendent General, Zenzo Ndabula, acting District Director for Dr Kenneth Kaunda, and other departmental senior managers, have excitedly welcomed Christmas babies. He visited the Klerksdorp/Tshepong Hospital complex today, as part of the celebrations and shared gifts with mothers and their new born babies.

“We are here as part of our drive to support our hardworking nurses and doctors and the general staff, who have sacrificed their family time to be here and secure lives.

“And to top it up, to deliver babies safely. I want to commend the good work done here by these patriotic men and women who diligently serve the general public,” said Lehari. 

He further congratulated these proud mothers for delivering bouncing healthy babies, with no complications reported thus far. Lehari added that this is a demonstration that they have capacity.

“We have specialists and people who really know what they are doing. We are proud of this auspicious moment. We will educate these new mothers thoroughly from here on how to care for them before we discharge them.

“I want to say Merry Christmas to them. The more the merrier. Of the new mothers, the youngest is 16 who gave birth to a baby boy at Klerksdorp/Tshepong Tertiary Hospital,” he said.

Lehari said another new and young mother is an 18 year-old, who gave birth at Boitekong Community Healthcare Centre in Bojanala District. He said as numbers continue to trickle in, the final statistics will be released upon collation.

“We will also be on the same drive on New Year’s Day, to give support to all medical personnel, who will be working and also congratulate mothers and welcome additional in the family.

“The department takes this time once again to wish everyone a cheerful and joyful Christmas Day,” said Lehari.
