MRM applauds 25 years imprisonment of Ikageng GBVF perpetrator

By OBAKENG MAJE

19 October 20025- The Moral Regeneration Movement (MRM) in the North West on Sunday applauded the 25 years imprisonment handed down to Molefi Benjamin Ramoholokoane (61) by the Potchefstroom Regional Court for the murder of his intimate partner, Maria Masego Fumba (37) committed on the 11 February 2025. The civil society led organisation promoting the Charter of Positive Values expressed hope that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to perpetrators of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).

Convenor of the MRM Provincial Interim Committee, Pastor Lesiba Kgwele remarked that the conviction which was realized within a short period will contribute towards restoring public confidence in the criminal justice system.

“We trust that the Fumba family will find closure in the knowledge that justice was done and commend the investigation officer, Constable Pholoso Mosenogi of the Ikageng Detectives and the prosecution team on the successful conviction.

“We urge men who are experiencing pressure in their relationships and personal lives to seek professional counselling instead of taking matters into their own hands. Ramoholokoane was driven by jealousy, insecurity as a well as control to commit a heinous and ghastly act as he suspected that his girlfriend was cheating on him with a neighbour (77), whom he was reportedly cooking a meal,” he said.

Kgwele further said he abrogated his responsibility as to protect his live-in partner whom he claimed to have loved when he resorted to senseless violence, ending her life in a gruesome manner. He added that evidence presented in court revealed that Ramoholokoane had stabbed the deceased with knife multiple times with two knives until she succumbed on the scene.

“The police were called to the scene and arrested him on the same day. He remained in police custody until the conclusion of the trial,” said Kgwele.

SACP: “Tshepo Boysa is not our member”

By AGISANANG SCUFF

19 October 2025- The South African Communist Party (SACP) in North West has distanced itself from wayward Tshepo Boysa, who were seen in videos wearing either ANC or SACP attires on various social media platforms using harsh and offensive words to demean ANC and SACP provincial leaders. The SACP said it has learned with shock the continuous utterances made on behalf of the organization and downing of its regalia by Boysa affectionately known as Azania.

Motsumi encourages Grade 12 learners at Charora Secondary School to work hard ahead of NSC final examinations

By BAKANG MOKOTO

19 October 2025- The North West MEC for Education Viola Motsumi visited Charora Secondary School in Luka village, near Rustenburg to motivate both parents and Grade 12 learners on 18 October 2025, as part of the Last Push campaign before the National Senior Certificate (NSC) final examinations. Motsumi said the visit followed the poor performance of Charora Secondary School in the third‑quarter matric results, wherein they obtained 63.5 %.

She further said the school has a total number of 159 Grade 12 learners, and 59 learners failed in the third quarter. Motsumi added that parents and teachers committed to helping learners during this period of the final examinations.

“During the Pledge Signing, parents played an important part in the commitment. We plead with parents to release learners to attend the incubation camps. I am extremely pleased to see a large number of parents who have responded to a call on Saturday morning. This action shows that parents of this school have a keen interest in education.

“In the last quarter we have observed that when learners were writing their examination being hosted in the incubation camp, they passed their exams. When they write exams being home they are defocused and many learners fail. I am appealing with your good selves to bring learners to the incubation camps,” she said.

Motsumi said teachers are available at the camps to assist learners and they are still hopeful that results could improve. She made Grade 12 learners aware that any learner who will be found to have contravened the examination rules will be banned for a period of 3 years.

Meanwhile, Mapule Khunou, a mother of the Grade 12 learner, highlighted that as parents, they never had education, but they are willing to assist their children.

Vandalism of water infrastructures have negative impact

By KEDIBONE MOLAETSI

19 October 2025- The Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality said it continues to experience costly vandalism in its water infrastructures across the district, which often creates interruption in supply of water to the community.

The municipality said Matshogo Reservoir in Dinokana village, near Zeerust, was not spared and suffered another blow when about 12 armed men accosted two security officers and cuffed them with electric cables and vandalized.

The executive mayor of Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality, Khumalo Molefe said these criminals opened the nearby pump house and took the entire cables inside, security guards’ cell phones and the security two-way radio communication system. Molefe said the situation seriously affected the flow of water greatly in parts of the wards in Ramotshere with water supply.

“We appeal for patience as our technical staff is onsite assessing the damage in order to mitigate this challenge. The municipality has for a number of times suffered these acts of vandalism and in many instances, our community ended up running out of patience and stage protests against the municipality.

“I am therefore making a humble appeal and hope that the alternative water supply will be available. Currently, the South African Police Service (SAPS) is onsite conducting their investigations with the hope of arresting perpetrators,” he said.
