The ANC Chief Whip of the North West Provincial Legislature (NWPL), Paul Sebegoe on Friday, wished the ANC Provincial Deputy Chairperson and North West MEC for Social Development, Lazarus Mokgosi a speedy recovery. This comes after Mokgosi and his protectors were involved in a car accident near Swartruggens on Thursday, while driving to Rustenburg.
The acting North West Premier, Nono Maloyi, MEC Mokgosi said Mokgosi was reportedly rushed to the hospital with minor injuries. Maloyi said Mokgosi was involved in an accident on the N4 road, near Swartruggens, while on route to an official engagement in Rustenburg.
“The North West Provincial Government (NWPG) can confirm that the protectors who were travelling with Mokgosi, have been discharged after sustaining minor injuries.
“Mokgosi also sustained minor injuries and has been admitted at the nearby hospital. We would like to take this opportunity to wish both Mokgosi and his protectors a full recovery,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sebegoe said: “On behalf of the ANC Caucus in the North West Provincial Legislature (NWPL), we wish Mokgosi a speedy recovery, healing and restoration. We are grateful that he survived the accident on his birthday, while discharging his responsibilities with dedication.
“Mokgosi’s incapacity occurred at a crucial stage of the ANC election campaign, when the contribution of every cadre and volunteer of the movement was much needed. While this is a blow we are confident that, as a courageous revolutionary cadre, he will bounce back to good health in time for the last push of the campaign.”
He also wished Mokgosi’s two protectors who were with him in the vehicle when they met the accident a speedy recovery. Sebegoe said the duo has since been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment for minor injuries.
Banyana Banyana coach, Desiree Ellis has announced a preliminary 30-member squad for the highly anticipated fourth round CAF Women’s Olympic qualifier against Nigeria next month. Ellis said the Sasol-sponsored South African senior women’s team is two games away from qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
She further said this comes after beating Tanzania 1-0 (aggregate 4-0) in a second leg third round CAF Women’s Olympic qualifier at the Mbombela stadium in Mpumalanga last month. Ellis added that her charges will go into camp on 25 March 2024 in preparation for the showdown against their long-time rivals.
“The final 23-player squad will be finalised for the Olympic qualifier when we name the team later this month. The venue for the home leg of the mouth-watering clash will be communicated by the South African Football Association (SAFA) in the coming days.
“Wendy Shongwe was withdrawn from the preliminary squad list due to injury. Kholosa Biyana was also not considered as she suffered an injury during the Olympic qualifier against Tanzania last month,” she said.
