ANC will emerge from conference stronger, says Zuma

Johannesburg – President Jacob Zuma says the ANC will emerge from the policy conference much stronger and with solutions.
He was giving his keynote address at the ANC’s fundraising gala dinner in Nasrec on Thursday night.
Zuma, who arrived alongside his wife thanked the private sector for its continued support.
“While the ANC has sound policies, we must use the Policy Conference to find mechanisms to accelerate their effective implementation. That will be our main focus, to say how we can effectively implement our good policies,” he said, adding that despite the internal organisational challenges the movement faces, it was determined to attend address these challenges.
“We have set aside two days to focus on organisational renewal. South Africa needs a strong, united and focused ANC, and we have a duty to ensure that we resolve all challenges that hinder the ANC from fully fulfilling its role as the leader of society.”

He also said the ruling party had made significant strides in providing service delivery but added it had more work to do.

Meanwhile, ANC treasurer general Zweli Mkhize said the presidential gala dinner was a platform for businessman and women to continue supporting the ruling party.
“Tonight is about interacting with stakeholders who have supported us,” Mkhize said. He wouldn’t be drawn into revealing the cost of hosting the evening, which he says took a few weeks to organise, or the cost of the tables – which can go for millions depending on where you’re sitting.
“We’ve encouraged people to give what they can,” he said.
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa was not in attendance as he was deployed to attend the funeral of late former Botswana President Ketumile Masire.
But all eyes will be on the real business on Friday when the conference kicks off.
The conference is billed as the biggest and most important gathering where ANC members will deliberate on the party’s policies.
Analysts have warned that the policy conference is also likely to be overshadowed by the succession debate and other issues such as State Capture.
Those who attended the dinner included, among others, ANC secretary general Gwede Mantshe, Minister of Women Susan Shabangu, Cosatu President S’dumo Dlamini and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Senzo Zokwana.

UN International Day of Cooperatives to be held in Kagisano-Molopo

    BY REGINALD KANYANE
The Kagisano-Molopo Local Municipality will host the 2017 United Nations International Day of Cooperatives in Bokone Bophirima Province at Phaphosana Community Hall, near Ganyesa.

The municipality spokesperson, Thomas Matlapeng said day is celebrated worldwide.

“In its resolution 47/90 of 16 December 1992, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed that International Day of Cooperatives will be celebrated annually on the first Saturday of July. The 2017 International Day of Cooperatives will focus on inclusion under the theme: Cooperatives ensure no one is left behind, which complements the priority theme of the 2017 high-level Political Forum for Sustainable Development, ‘eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world’

“The objective of the day is also to motivate local communities to form cooperatives as a way of economic empowerment and self-dependence. The theme above sings from the same hymn book as the Bokone Bophirima Provincial Government’s VTSD concrete which has the objectives of fighting the triple challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequality among our people,” Matlapeng said.

He further said that the day coincides with Kagisano-Molopo Local Municipality’s planned launch of its VTSD industrialisation projects and showcasing of over a hundred cooperatives predominantly comprised of young people and women.

Matlapeng added that the municipality has set aside more than R9 million for its Local Economic Development projects like Goat Massification, Recycling and Tourism, and prepared at least 70 cooperatives to that effect.

“These are ‘Go Thethebana’ projects as announced by mayor, Bitsa Lenkopane during her State of the Municipal Address (SOMA) in May. Go Thethebana’ is a Setswana phrase that means getting full or satisfied beyond limit,” he said.

The event will commence at 9am.

Mining charter crowd ‘paid’ R100 each to disrupt Zwane’s meeting

Footage has surfaced to show that a group of people who disrupted last week’s imbizo addressed by Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane on the mining charter may have been paid R100 to cause the raucous.

Television channel ANN7 is in possession of pictures which shows money exchanging hands  among a group of people who attended last weeks imbizo and ended up disrupting it.

Zwane was prevented by the rowdy crowd from addressing the imbizo held in Middleburg, Mpumalanga.

A group of disgruntled community members did not want Zwane to address them because Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza was not present at the imbizo.

Zwane later expressed that what happened in Mpumalanga would not deter scheduled mining charter imbizos.

“If people think that the premier should be here, then we will come back. We will engage the premier and pass the message that people want him present at the imbizo,” he said.

    Mahumapelo to attend Masire’s funeral

    wp-1498192493382.jpg

MESSAGE of condolences continue to pour in for former Botswana’s late president, Sir Ketumile Masire who died on Thursday last week. Botswana vice president, Mokgweetsi Masisi and president, Ian Khama paid homage to Masire.

He passed on last week Thursday after undergoing a surgery at a private hospital in Gaborone, Botswana.

Masire’s body is lying in state at the country’s parliament, and Batswana are paying their respects.

“Masire’s contribution to the struggle for stability of the region cannot go unnoticed. North West Premier, Supra Mahumapelo will also attend Masire’s funeral.

Mahumapelo has described Masire as one of the greatest and humble leaders Botswana has ever had.

“We convey our heartfelt condolences to the Masire family and the people of Botswana for the loss of this great yet humble leader who contributed significantly to the progress that Botswana enjoys today. I salute Sir Ketumile  Masire for his visionary leadership during his tenure as President of Botswana,” Mahumapelo said.

Hartswater pupils receive school uniforms, jackets and shoes

    Hartswater

    By KEDIBONE MOLAETSI

MORE than 25 deprived pupils from Hartswater, received school uniforms and shoes recently. Northern Cape Transport, Safety and Liaison department spokesperson, Keitumetse Moticoe said that the donation will assist many school children in the area.

Moticoe further said it was imperative to ensure that school children have warm clothes for winter.

“We identified underprivileged children at Ted Caster Intermediate School. Their lives will be changed for the better and the aim of this initiative was to ensure that we improve their lives in pursuit of them getting educated.

“We donated winter jackets, shoes, jerseys, trousers, skirts, shirts, long winter socks and beanies. We saw the need when visiting the school last year. We donated sanitary towels to assist young girls who were unable to attend school during their cycle due to lack of the sanitary products,” she said.

Moticoe added that some of the learners were attending school without shoes, jerseys, long pants or jackets. She said they felt compelled to do something to assist them.

Mama Lekwene, Gender Desk said “It was also a way of taking social responsibility in building a caring society. Therefore, we requested all senior managers and staff to donate winter school uniforms.

“We received great support from a local company called Meriting Company. The company donated school uniform worth R10 000. The children we grateful and expressed their appreciation to the staff members.”
