A man, believed to be in his fifties, was killed this evening when he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle along the N12 outside Fochville, west of Johannesburg.

Shortly after 7pm paramedics from ER24 arrived on the scene where they found the man with severe trauma lying in the road. It is understood from a bystander on the scene that a vehicle drove into the cyclist before throwing him into the road. Several other vehicles also collided with the man.

ER24 paramedics declared the man dead on the scene.

According to bystanders, the vehicle that originally collided with the cyclist continued to drive on.

Local authorities attended the scene and will conduct an investigation.
