Six nabbed in Klerksdorp

Six suspects were arrested on the N12 after a business was robbed undisclosed cash in Tigane near Klerksdorp.

The Highway Patrol traffic officers and with SAPS traced the vehicle that was used during the robbery after immediately been alerted and the vehicle was spotted on the N12.

The six suspects were driving a white Mazda midge with the Gauteng registration number, and the police found cash, 9mm pistol with two rounds and one magazine.

The suspects are linked to other robberies which happened at Makwassie, Lichtenburg, Alabama and Kanana. This will be determined by the further investigation by the police.

Community Safety and Transport Management MEC Gaoage Molapisi commended the police traffic officers for having swiftly responded to the alert and arrested the suspects.

“Our law enforcement officers are continuously working day and night to clean the N12. This is not the first time they made a success this year.”

“This should send a strong message to criminals that they do not have a place in Bokone Bophirima.

“We are going to spoil all the picnics and honeymoon that criminals are used to and will not allow them to spoil our mission to Rebrand, Renew and Reposition our province.

People should feel free at their homes, work, schools, streets and businesses as dictated by the National Development Plan”.

“We will continue working together with our law enforcement agencies to make our province safe and habitable,” concluded Molapisi.

‘Manthe Primary School in full-swing after opening’

THE newly-built school at Manthe village in Taung was officially opened on Tuesday. The school was built by Anglo American mining company after the dilapidation school was demolished and built from sketchy.

The renovated Manthe Primary School was a social responsibility for the rural area in Manthe village under Ba-ga Maidi Tribal Authority.

The department of Education and Sport Development in North West, Elias Malindi said the renovations cost the mining giant over R23 million, and he said that 474 learners were given a brand new pair of school shoes and school bags. Malindi further added that the mining giant extended their giving hand by donating customised wheelchairs to two learners.

“Excited community members, parents, various stakeholders, representatives from the Minerals and Energy department including government officials were part of the event,” Malindi said.

Anglo American CEO, Chris Griffith said:  “The future of our kids is at the centre of our social and labour plans. We will continue to focus on education as a key priority in line with the National Development Plan (NDP). If our children are educated, we will see more leaders like Nelson Mandela emerge from our communities.”

Superintendent-General of the North West Department of Education and Sport Development, Dr I.S Molale encouraged villagers to look after their infrastructure and told Anglo American employees that the department was pleased by this generous gesture.

“Manthe primary school is an all-inclusive school which also accommodates physically disabled, moderate mental and deaf learners. The school has trained remedial educators including an educator who is fully trained in sign language,” Molale said.

“This facility also boasted a state of the art water reticulation facility and sports complex. Anglo American also pledged that they will continue to work with other communities and stakeholders to further education and training,”

School Lab destroyed by lightining

A terrible lightning and thunderstorm that stroke in the early hours of Tuesday, left the computer laboratory at Lekwakwa Primary School in Tlhabane, near Rustenburg damaged.

36 computers, computer equipment, cables, tables, chairs, textbooks were burnt to ashes after the lightning.  Ceiling and roofing were also damaged and that left the school in constraints.

The department of Education in the province said the community members who were in the school vicinity, were woken up by a blaze at the school and rushed to quench the fire with fire extinguishers that were mounted at the computer laboratory.

Departmental spokesperson, Elias Malindi said fire fighters were also called in to tackle the blaze and the estimated not yet finalised.

“The rest of the school building was not affected by the lightening. Teaching and learning is proceeds uninterrupted, but only computer lessons will be suspended until a contingency plan is initiated,” Malindi said.

MEC for Education and Sport Development, Wendy Matsemela said she was shocked of the incident and sent her appreciation to those who came out to quench fire at the school.

“As the department of Education and Sport Development we wish to thank the community members those who rushed to quench the fire at the school. This is a clear depiction of community and parental involvement we always advocate when difficulty affects our schools.  This is a demonstration of parents taking pride of their schools and children’s future”, Matsemela said.

North West premier visits Botswana in commemoration

THE North West premier, Supra Mahumapelo in conjunction with The High Commissioner of the Republic of South Africa Mr Mdu Lembede will conduct a memorial lecture in honour of the late stalwart ZK Mathews at Moeding College in Otse, in Botswana on Friday.

Mahumapelo will also be part of the30th anniversary for commemoration of the 1985 Gaborone Massacre that will take place on Saturday. Those who are expected to attend the event, include government ministers from Botswana and South Africa.

Provincial acting spokesperson, Brian Setswambung said the move to honour Professor ZK Mathews and commemorate the Gaborone Massacre emanates from Mahumapelo’s State of the Province Address (SOPA) in March this year, which he directed that various activities and programmes will be initiated to honour cadres who passed away while on their way to and from exile.

“Subsequently, the Liberation Heritage Route Project was launched at Lobatla village in April this year with a view to document the history of the struggle launched through the province, and honour heroes and heroines who used this route to cross into Botswana on their way to other parts of the world as they resisted apartheid,” Setswambung said.

 

He further said the 1985 Gaborone Massacre took place on June 14 in 1985 when members of the then South African Defence Force (SANDF) crossed into Botswana and attacked South Africans and Batswana in Gaborone and neighbouring villages and twelve people died during the raid.

North West singer eyes to scoop Idols SA 2015 competition

A 21 year-old singer, Dineo Moseki from Tlakgameng village in Vryburg said she was eyeing the bigger price at the Idols SA competition. Moseki, who is in top 10, won many hearts across North West province and South Africa alike with her angelic voice.

“I have loved music from my early ages and music to me, is my life. I was inspired by Destiny’s child group. I learnt to engage with various personalities because I believe that brings out different dimension in us.

Queen D as Dineo is affectionately known to her followers said she went to the Idols SA last year, but could not make it because things did not go accordingly. She said what kept her going was the winning adrenalin and with that mentality of ‘never give up’ attitude.

“It is hard as a singer to get in the music industry, so last year I decided to come to Idols SA and showcase my God’s given talent. I was hurt and felt dejected, but through the support I received from my family and friends including my followers, I learnt to accept the defeat and to try harder,” Moseki said.

“We all come from different backgrounds and we get to decide how we deal with what life throws at us. But I believe when life throws lemons at you, take them and make lemonade. It is not easy in this dog-it-dog industry. One must have at least academic qualifications to fall back on if things do not go as planned. I am planning to further my studies to have that broader idea in music industry because many artists previously died as paupers because they could not manage their funds well,” Moseki said.

“I was not raised in milk and honey situation, neither was also raised in rags, but nevertheless life was not always easy. We are five children and you will imagine how was the situation with not getting what you always wanted to have as a kid. Music was my inspiration.”

Dineo shared her knowledge to upcoming musicians and said: “I know the struggle. I know the critics you will come across, but as a musician believe in what you do and do it the best way you could. I believe that a positive mind and attitude in a person’s life can lead to a positive and progressive society.”

‘ANC and EFF in loggerheads amid intimidation’

A 29 year-old man opened a case of intimidation at Mahikeng Police Station after he was allegedly intimidated by ANC members in Ngaka Modiri Molema region on Tuesday.

EFF staunch member, Lebogang Baakanyang said that he was at a local complex when approached by unruly ANC members and intimidated him. Baakanyang said the perpetrators allegedly forcefully undressed him and took his beloved EFF t-shirt away.

“They told me to come to the ANC office to fetch my t-shirt, which I did. On my arrival, I was surprised when they handed me ANC membership forms. They forced me to fill the forms and afterwards they gave me the ANC t-shirt to wear. They undressed and harassed me in full view of public,” Baakanyang said.

The EFF Regional Secretary, Neo Moroeng said: “We condemn the act of ANC members as this was form of anarchy. This form of anarchy displayed by ANC members is a sign of ill-discipline and desperation within the ranks of ANC to cling to political influence within the Ngaka Modiri Molema Region. This is not
an isolated case as another EFF member was assaulted in
Ramosadi, in Mahikeng recently,” Moeroeng.

However ANC in Ngaka Modiri Molema Regional Secretary, Priscilla Williams said: “I cannot respond instinctively to the matter because it has not reached my office, however if indeed that was what happened, we condemn the act because ANC is a voluntarily movement where anyone joined voluntarily. We will engage with our structure and see what really transpired. I do not think those were our members because our members do know how to behaviour. We always encourage political tolerance at all time,”

North West police spokesperson, Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said that a case of intimidation was opened, however no one has been arrested and investigation was underway.

“We can confirm that a case of intimidation has been opened, however no one was arrested yet. In another incident where they said one of EFF member was assaulted, I cannot confirm anything because the matter has not reached us yet,” Mokgwabone said.

Taung man arrested for raping a minor

A 46 year old man appeared before Taung Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday after he was arrested in connection of rape. The suspect allegedly raped a 10 year-old girl more than four months ago, but he was only arrested on Tuesday this week.

It is alleged that the suspect, who was the SGB chairperson at the school, raped a girl at his home in Lokaleng village, Taung.

North West police spokesperson, col Sabata Mokgwabone said the matter took place in April this year according to the mother of the victim. “A man appeared before court on Wednesday and was remanded in custody until Monday where he will be back in court for formal bail application,”
