A 36-year-old woman was arrested after she was found in possession of 145 mandrax tablets, worth R6000 in street value. The woman was arrested on Wednesday, while boarding a taxi from Kimberley to Hartswater.
Northern Cape police said an information was received from a public member about a woman, who was about to board a taxi on N12 in Kimberley to Hartswater. The police reacted promptly to the information, and the woman was found inside the taxi. Police spokesperson, lieutenant Olebogeng Tawana said, and she allegedly dropped a plastic bag containing mandrax under the seat on which she was seated after realising police are on her tail.
“She is expected to appear before the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Monday. A case of being in possession of mandrax was opened,” Tawana said.
The Kimberley Cluster Commander Major General Jean Abrahams lauds the contribution of the members of the community in the fight against crime.
“Crime can only be uprooted within our communities when the communities become part of forces that eradicates crime within the neighbourhood”, she said.
