The Setsokotsane accelerated service delivery programme of Bokone Bophirima Provincial Government is headed to Lekwa Teemane Local Municipality, starting from Thursday, to continue its service delivery activities there.

The service delivery activities are being planned for Ward 1, 3 and 7.

The programme of the day will commence as follows:

North West premier welcomes court ruling on Marikana report

Mahikeng: 
Mahikeng- Bokone Bophirima Premier Supra Obakeng Ramoeletsi Mahumapelo welcomes the court ruling which permits President Zuma to release the report by end of June 2015.

Judge Tuchten said he was unable to agree that the President’s decision to delay the release of the report until the end of June was irrational or was based on an improper motive.

Mahumapelo emphasised that this ruling reiterates the stance of the provincial government that this provides an opportunity for Bokone Bophirima in particular and South Africa in general to learn important lessons and to embark on a programme to reconcile, heal and renew Marikana as part of building a better South Africa.

Matsheng family dejected over the death of their son

THE family of Mookamedi Kopele(31) was left dejected after his lifeless body was found in front of a local tavern on Sunday morning.

Mookamedi was allegedly found dead on Sunday at Matsheng village, near Taung but no one could tell what really happened to him.

Segopotso Kopele(37) who was Mookamedi’s brother said they received a call on Sunday morning informing them that his brother was dead.

“I could not believe what I heard until I arrived at the scene. I found my brother’s lifeless body lying on the ground next to a tavern.

“What’s really hurt us was that, no one saw anything because we do not know what killed him even now,” Segopotso said.

North West police spokesperson, sergeant Kealeboga Molale confirmed that a case of inquest was opened at Taung Police Station after the body of a 31 year-old man was found in the early hours of the morning on Sunday.

“Police are investigating a case of inquest after a lifeless body of a 31-year-old man was found lying next to the tavern, and the cause of his death is unknown,” Molale said.

Police said they are still waiting for postmortem results to know what caused Mookamedi’s death.

He will be buried this weekend.

North West ANC Youth League pronounced Collen Mokone Maine as their ANC Youth league presidency candidate

TAUNG- ANC Youth League in North West has pronounced the sitting Provincial Chairperson of the league and the MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements Collen Mokone Maine as their candidate to become the next President of the ANC youth wing. This came out in the ANC Youth League rally that was held at Pudumong Community Hall in Taung on Tuesday (16 June 2015) to commemorate the day.

The rally was attended by members of the league from all four regions
in the province and youth league leaders from neighboring provinces
such as Limpopo, Free State, Mpumalanga and Gauteng.

When addressing the hall that was packed to capacity the provincial
secretary Sipho Dial said Collen Mokone Maine remain the only
candidate equal to the task of restoring the ANC Youth League.
“We have discussed this position with the league structures and they said
Maine’s credentials speaks volumes and his strong caliber as well as
his strength to deal with tasks at hand, place him as the suitable candidate for the top position in the league”, said Dial.

Collen Maine who is the current chairperson of the league has served
in different positions in political movements and in government.

-He led the branch of the ANCYL in the then ward 13, now ward 26 of
the Taung Sub-Region
-He served as the member and leader of COSAS as Deputy Secretary in
Schweizer-Reneke Region
-Member of the Youth League since 1996
-Regional Organizer of ANCYL in the then Bophirima, now the Dr Ruth
Segomotsi Mompati region in 2002 till 2007
-Served as Youth League PEC member – Deputy Chairperson in 2008
-He also served as the NCOP member in 2009
-In 2013 he became MEC for Social Development till 2014.
-He is currently the MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements

The Provincial Chairperson Collen Maine has accepted the call by the
league members. “Youth League members have chosen me to represent their aspirations as young people in this province by becoming the President of the league. As the member of the Youth League in good
standing I have no choice but to lead the league’s masses in restoring
the confidence of young people in this organization. This is the organization that should champion their interest and strongly deal with challenges that young people face, especially the triple
challenges of unemployment, poverty and inequality”, said Collen
Maine.

The league is to hold different events across the province to continue
to communicate their position to different branches and lobby support
from its counterparts in other provinces across the country.

Department to groom five young people in Kgetleng to become viable contractors

Swartruggens – Bokone Bophirima MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements Collen Maine has committed to support five ordinary young people from Kgetleng River Local Municipality to groom and turn them into viable and sustainable housing contractors.

MEC Maine who was representing the Bokone Bophirima Provincial Government made the announcement during the Youth Dialogue session held at Swartruggens community hall yesterday as part of young month activities. 

The dialogue was attended by young people from different villages, townships and small dorpies of Kgetleng Rivier local municipality who raised diverse issues which mostly focussed on the triple challenges of unemployment, poverty and inequality.

MEC Maine said: “As the Department of Local Government and Human Settlements we have committed 700 houses this financial year which should be build by young people. Some of those young people will be from this area. I need five young people so that we put them to participate in the mainstream of our economy by becoming viable housing contractors.

“However we need disciplined young people who will deliver quality houses and not buy expensive cars after their first claim. This opportunity is for those who want to grow and remain in the industry and groom other wanna-be contractors” said MEC Maine.

MEC Maine also ordered the registration of cooperatives by young people so that they can begin to be part of the contractors who should be included in future project in the area.

“On Thursday in the municipal community halls, officials will come to assist you to register cooperatives and we appeal to you to avail yourself for this exercise. As the provincial government we have taken a decision that in each and every project, 40% of the work should be given to local cooperatives. So in all future projects these cooperatives will benefit so that we create employment and depart important skills to young people’’, said MEC Maine.

Other issues raised by young people included the unavailability of youth desks, lack of recreational facilities and support by government, alcohol and drug abuse, high teenage pregnancy, lack of scholar transport and few text books.

MEC Maine has advised to ensure availability of youth desks with important information at all municipal buildings and that young people should use halls and other recreational facilities without paying. He also committed to forward other concerns to relevant departments so that they can be attended to as a matter of urgency.

Trio nabbed for business robbery in Ganyesa

Potchefstroom- Three men namely Butie Kopedi (36), Abram Keikanetswe (21) and Obakeng Kopedi (20), appeared today in the Ganyesa Magistrates’ Court for Business Robbery today.  

The three were arrested on Friday after they allegedly broke into a shop of a foreign national in Rabu-rabu Section at Morokweng.  

“Police traced their foot tracks in the area that led to one of the suspect’s homes. The suspect was found in possession of stolen goods and led police to the arrest of the other two suspects who were also found in possession of the other stolen goods,” North West police spokesperson sergeant Kealeboga Molale said. 

“Suspects are still in custody and they will appear again on Thursday for further investigations and bail application,” she said.

Rustenburg woman arrested with nyaope

Potchefstroom- North West police dog unit (K9) in Phokeng in conjunction with Royal Bafokeng Administration (Reaction Force) arrested a 21-year-old woman in Phokeng for possession of nyaope to the amount of R250.  

North West police spokesperson, sergeant Kealeboga Molale said the suspect was arrested on Monday in Dithabeng Section at Phokeng. 

“The team was on their daily routine patrolling in the area when they received information about a woman who was allegedly selling heroin. When the team raided the house, eight small packets believed to be of heroin were found in the gloves,” Molale said.

She said the woman is due to appear at Bafokeng Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday facing charges of possession of drugs.

Police investigate double murder in Belthorne Estate


CAPE TOWN – A suspect has been taken in for questioning following a fatal shooting in Athlone.

Two people were shot and killed after a fight broke out at a karaoke bar in Belthorne Estate on Saturday night.

Police discovered the body of a 40-year-old man outside the Turfhall Stadium when they attended to the scene shortly before midnight.

Del Bosque wins 100th match in charge of Spain


MOSCOW – Spain coach Vicente del Bosque celebrated 100 games in charge with a 1-0 victory over Belarus in a Euro 2016 qualifier on Sunday, Manchester City’s David Silva scoring the goal.

Victory at the Borisov Arena kept European champions Spain in second place in Group C with 15 points from six games, three points behind group leaders Slovakia.

‘Omar al-Bashir will leave SA when he’s ready to’


JOHANNESBURG – Sudan’s foreign minister has said the country’s President Omar al-Bashir will leave South Africa when he’s ready to and is not bound by a High Court decision obliging him to stay. 

Al-Bashir has been in this country attending the African Union (AU) Summit in Sandton but his visit has landed South Africa in a difficult diplomatic situation.
