MEC Oageng Molapisi responsible for Community Safety and Transport Management in North West interacted with drivers and ensured that the people of Christiana and Bokone Bophirima get the best service they deserve.
Along the N12 Road, seconds after seconds MEC interacted with the drivers and passengers as their vehicles were stopped at a routine road-block.
The courteous road block was a joint effort by South African Police Service, Jaws and High Way Patrol operations.
MEC Molapisi also distributed educational material on road safety and compliance. He encouraged drivers to adhere to the rules of the road, encourages drivers to rest after every two hours or two hundred kilometres, to observe the speed limit and avoid overloading of goods and passengers so as to arrive alive; he further cautioned those that were smoking while driving that is a dangerous habit and harmful.
Furthermore, Molapisi visited the Bloemhof and Christiana Police Stations with the intent to oversee on issues of compliance and service delivery. During his interaction with SAPS Managers, MEC had his eye on the dominant crimes and their strategy to deal with these crimes. He further expressed his concern and disappointment on the high rate of abuse on the vulnerable women and children.
Most of cases recorded and currently under investigation on rape and domestic violence. “What is frustrating mostly is that after these cases have been opened and the accused got arrested and appear in court, suddenly the cases get withdrawn either by parents or victims themselves not because of lack of evidence but perpetrators strike a deal with the victim or family members by offering them cash,” he said.
He said crimes will not be reduced because indirectly these victims are encouraging these barbaric acts and will never be punished for the crimes they have committed.
However, MEC sent out a team of officials from his office together with the police to visit the victims in order to establish if indeed they withdrew the cases and the reasons for that.
Molapisi said through Setsokotsane the department is able to promptly measure service delivery and intervene.
Despite the hurt from the affected families, they thanked the department for showing interest and the oversight role the department is playing on the police.
“We thank you for protecting us and ensuring that the police do their work without been corrupted, Viva Setsokotsane Viva, said an eighty year old woman.
