Taung man dropped dead while walking home

KOKOMENG- A 49 year-old man passed away in Kokomeng village, near Taung on Sunday after he dropped dead while walking home.

North West police spokesperson captain Pelonomi Makau said two men were walking together when a 49 year-old man suddenly fell.

“He was confirmed dead by paramedics and a case of inquest was opened. Police suspect no faul play in this matter” Makau said.

The incident took place on Sunday at around 18:30.
Police investigations continue.

A truck caught fire in Potchefstroom

POTCHEFSTROOM- Netcare 911 paramedics noticed that a light delivery vehicle’s load caught alight while driving near Potchefstroom in the North West Province.

They immediately stopped to assist the driver.

“They managed to put out most of the fire with the fire extinguisher from the ambulance” Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann said.

Fortunately no-one was injured during this incident.

Cops search for North West rapist


Johannesburg – North West police were on Wednesday searching for a man who allegedly raped a woman in Ga-Botha village in Moutse West.

“The case docket of rape was opened and police are busy with the investigations,” said Constable Lethunya Mmuroa.

The 28-year-old woman was raped at her house in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“The suspect broke the window, found the victim sleeping and raped her.”

Mmuroa said the woman knew the 28-year-old man as they lived in the same village. – Sapa

Tshabalala quits as SABC board chair


Johannesburg – Ellen Tshabalala has resigned as chairperson of the SABC board and also quit the board, the presidency announced on Wednesday.

“The President thanks Ms Tshabalala for her contribution to the public broadcaster and wishes her all the best in her future endeavours,” the presidency said in a statement.

Troughton praises Arub


University of Pretoria coach Sammy Troughton has praised goalkeeper Washington Arubi for giving them the platform “to punish” Polokwane City.

AmaTuks equaled their best-ever result in thumping City 5-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, with all the goals being scored in the second half.

Arubi was at fault for the home side’s only goal, but came back strongly to help his team to a resounding victory.

“In this game there are fine lines, and at 1-1 he made an unbelievable save,” Troughton said after the game.

Ysterberg accident leaves six dead


Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found the crumpled remains of two vehicles following head-on collision between a Nissan and Peugot.

Upon assessment of all the occupants they found that six people tragically lost their lives as a result of the collision.

“Exact detail surrounding the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation” Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann said.

Traffic is affected as a result of the accident and will remain affected for a while until the scene has been cleared and the vehicles have been removed.

Fourteen people injured in a car accident

Johannesburg- Fourteen people were injured following an accident on Innes Street near Regent Street in Observatory, Johannesburg this morning.

“Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived on scene and found that a minibus had left the roadway, crashed through a fence and crashed against a small building where it came to a standstill.

“Exact detail surrounding the cause of the crash and preceding events are still unknown and will remain the subject of a police investigation” Netcare  911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann said.

Upon assessment of all the occupants, they found that a man is in a critical condition, three people were found to be in a serious condition and ten people sustained minor to moderate injuries.

 All the injured patients were treated on scene and transported to hospital for further medical care.

Ramaphosa reminisces on the life and times of Mandela

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday delivered the “building the legacy Memorial Lecture” in honour of the late President Nelson Mandela at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Johannesburg. During his address, Ramaphosa reminisced on the life and the times of the former statesman. Ramaphosa says Mandela was a leader among leaders, and as South Africans we should be proud of him.

Halfway House accident leaves various injured

Pretoria- An accident at the intersection of Old Pretoria Main Road and Church Street in Halfway House, Midrand left traffic severely obstructed and approximately six people injured.

Netcare 911’s rescue unit arrived at the scene and found that a minibus had crashed against a heavy goods vehicle.

“Approximately six occupants of the minibus sustained various injuries ranging from minor to serious and were transported to hospital after receiving treatment on scene” Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann.

The rescue unit assisted the fire department to remove the minibus and heavy goods vehicle as the two vehicles’ were entangled following the crash.

Exact detail surrounding the cause of the crash and preceding events are still unknown at this stage and will remain the subject of a police investigation.

True reconciliation still non-existent in SA: Study

Reconciliation

As the country marks Reconciliation Day on Tuesday, the recent spate of racially-motivated altercations in Cape Town has come under the spotlight.

A recently-published study has pointed out that race has become more prominent in how South Africans identify themselves.

The 2014 edition of the South African Reconciliation Barometer, published by the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation, shows that South Africans have grown more disillusioned by the notion of a rainbow nation, and instead see race as a salient aspect of their identity.
