A girl was raped two weeks ago at Magogong village, near Taung.

According to information, a girl allegedly went to the local shop where is in the same yard as the tavern in the area.

A 28 year-old man who was at a tavern, followed the girl after she bought some cheese-snacks and dragged her to the nearest veld where the rape took place.

Taung Anti-Crime Forum Chairpersperson Peggy Molatlhegi said the monstrousness left the girl with internal injuries.

“The suspect was arrested after our intervention. Our anti-crime wing, Magogong Anti-Crime went on a manhunt and arrested the suspect.
They called Taung police, but could not make it as they claimed there was no police van available to go to Magogong village to arrest the suspect” Peggy Molatlhegi said.

The Anti-crime Forum members allegedly organised a transport where the suspect was loaded in and taken to Taung Police Station.

Even though there was no police van to arrest the suspect, that did not leave the community members despondent.

BY STAFF REPORTER
Pudumoe- A case against a 74 year-old man was provisionally withdrawn by Taung Magistrate Court on Tuesday.

Ohentse Gaanamong(74) appeared briefly before Taung Magistrate Court after he allegedly suffocated a man to death.

North West police investigated a case of inquest and later turned it into a murder case after a man suspected to be one of robbers died.

The incident took place at Loselong village near Pudimoe.

According to information, two men were driving along the road from cattle auction when the atrocity took place.

Gaanamong and Sekolopo allegedly saw one of the suspects pushing a car under false pretext that the car would not start. They stopped and helped him to push it so that it can kick-start.

Two people pounced on them from the bushes and stole R24 000 from their vehicle.

After realising that they have been scammed, they chased on the suspects, and the old-timer grabbed the man and suffocated him to death in a scuffle.

“We were from an auction where we sold few cows and had R24 000 in our car. The man we left behind while pushing their car, went to our car and searched it. He stole R24 000 and tried to fled, we chased after him” Gaanamong said.

According to information, three suspects were from Rustenburg and tried to swindle two men.

Two suspect are still at large and a case of inquest which was overturned into murder was launched at Pudumoe Police Station.

Gaanamong appeared before court and his case was provincially withdrawn.

Taung Anti-Crime Forum Chairperson Peggy Molatlhegi said the criminals are a thorn in a flesh as they take away the good citizens’ hard-earned belongings and cash.

“We will come out gun blazing this festive season to make sure that criminals find no place in the area. They want to turn Taung into a cringe” Molatlhegi said.

Gaanamong who is a father of seven children was over the moon and said he wish the case can be withdrawn completely.

“Eish…I have mixed feelings. I just wish the case can be withdrawn completely as it was not my intention to kill that guy, but he forced me to do it. I wanted my money only, and unfortunately that led to him to his death” he outlines.
