The North West government has closed down a number of illegal initiation schools and made one arrest. Only two out of a hundred and five active schools in the province, are legal.

Two initiates have died while two others have been hospitalised since the start of the circumcision season. Authorities accuse fly-by-night operators of misusing the old age tradition of the rights to passage from boys to manhood. This particular initiation school had 42 initiates but only 3 were registered with the department.
