Farmers rejoice as rainy season ends dry spell

Farmers and co-ops are jubilant after a rare rainy season this past two weeks. It’s broken a deadly dry spell and the rain presents a good sign for crop production.

Farmers say the prolonged drought left many destitute and fearful for the future.

Spokesperson for the Northern Transvaal Co-operative, Manie Pretorius says, “It has rained very well and farmers are in high spirits and smiling. Sales of fertiliser and seeds are very brisk. Everybody is very happy.”
