A man in his 50s was killed and five others injured late last night after three vehicles collided on the N12 near Fochville, North West.

ER24 paramedics arrived on scene and found three wrecked vehicles on scene. One of the vehicles, a tranporter, lay on its roof while the other two bakkies were on either side of the road.

The occupants of the transported had already crawled out from their vehicle and were waiting for paramedics.

“On inspection of the scene, paramedics discovered that one man lay trapped inside his crumpled bakkie. Unfortunately the man had already succumbed to his severe injuries” Er24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

Four other occupants from the transporter and second bakkie had sustained moderate injuries while the fifth lay in a critical condition.

Paramedics set out treating the patients while providing the critically injured patient with advanced life support.

“Once treated, all the patients were transported to Mediclinic Potchefstroom for further treatment” Meiring said.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.

The newsworld is currently abuzz with reports of a hostage situation in Truworths at the Golden walk shopping Centre in Germiston.

It was reported that an unhappy client was holding Truworhts staff at gunpoint, and guards from a SBV money truck who had arrived just before the incident took place had gone to attempt to help resolve the situation. Reports of two Germiston SAPS members who were not in uniform reacted

to the hostage situation, where they were mistaken for robbers by the SBV guards. After the robbery alarm had been activated by the gaurds a shoot-out ensued where one plain clothed SAPS officers had been wounded.

It is being reported that the armed perpetrator responsible for the whole situation has now been arrested, and the situation is resolved.
