RUSTENBURG-On Friday morning at about 11:20, four mineworkers, two men and two women( age unknown) were forcefully taken into a bakkie at Waterval Smelter( shaft) to Zakhele informal settlement.

On their arrival they were surrounded by + – 1000 mineworkers who assaulted them with stones, rocks, fists and knobkerries. 

“It is alleged that the miners accused the four victims for reporting on  duty when they( miners ) were still on strike. It is suspected that the victims have been targeted for a long time” Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said.

“Four victims were taken to the local hospital where three are in critical but stable condition. The fourth victim is at the intensive care unit and no arrests have been made” Ngubane said.

A case of attempted murder has been opened.
