Being in the entertainment industry isn’t only about being in the limelight, but being good at what you do best!!!
Our crew is chilling on a hot seat with SABC radio, Motsweding Fm news anchor…Bahedile “Bayo” Selogilwe, so seatback at let’s us take you through Bayo’s world and fantasy!!!!
WHERE DOES IT ALL STARTED!!!!
Motsweding Fm news reader, Bahedile Selogilwe was born and bred in Free State in Thaba Nchu 29 years ago. It really shows that in life with talent, discipline and hard-work life will pay dividend. Even though being on radio wasn’t her ideal decision, she really appreciate the time and career path she chose.
” I was still at college and writing my final exams, so I was already looking for a job then heard an ad (ya gore)at a local radio station that they are looking for an on air presenters and news readers. I thought aow, how hard can it be to just read the news and decided to go for auditions, luckily I was offered the position and became a news reader for three years at Mosupatsela Fm. I ended up loving my job” Thaba Nchu born girl said.
Bayo, as she is fondly known to her followers started to develop more interest and put more efforts on being a news anchor. She is armed with Diploma in Marketing Management and harbor hopes of become a news editor one day.
A sassy voice presenter said even though it is not that demanding to be a news reader, you must always be informative and relevant.
Bahedile stays alone and visit her family frequently. Even though life was not that tough by her side, it was not smooth either. Her parents divorced while she was only five and that was devastated moment of her life.
“I live alone, hahahaha marriage neh naah am not married, its not that hard to joggle between family and work” she smile.
Bahedile continue “My family e ko Free State and I don’t have to struggle between doing my job and spending time with them. Anyway my job is not that demanding hey, once am done with my shift it’s a wrapped up for the day ,but I make sure I go home every month-end and spend time with them. Even though I feel it’s not enough, but what can one do ijob ijob, eish me being a news reader it was actually what I can call “go thula spane nje” she said.
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A NEWS READER!!!!
We asked her about what it is that you have to become a news presenter. Bahedile also outlines where she draws her source of inspiration.
“To be on radio you need to be passionate and have the love of it.the love for it. If you are commitment and of course a voice hahahaha le di qualifications. If you have qualifications in Journalism and Communications” said Selogilwe.
“Eish, my main challenge as a child was when my parents divorced. I was only five and was all confusing and very devastating for me and my two siblings, and at that very same period I lost my grandpa, may his soul rest in peace. We had a special bond, I remember I would insist gore e nne ena a ntlhapisang(bath me).
He took me to school everyday and to lose him at the same time my parents divorced, go ne go se bonolo( it wasn’t easy) she said.
Her future plans!!!
Motsweding Fm presenter continue about where she would like to see herself in the future.
“My parents are still both alive I don’t take anything away from them. They were always there for me as parents, especially supporting me financially and they never even questioned tlhopo ya me ya mmereko (career choice),but I would say the person who played a very big role ya gore ke be ke le motsadi le lekgarabe le ke leng lone(made sure i am who i am ) today its my granny, may her soul rest in peace.
,She was the best mother anyone could ask for, she taught me a lot.
Mo go tsone tsotlhe o nthutile go boifa Modimo (out of all she taught me to fear God), le gore everything is possible if u trust in God said Bayo.
“I would love to see myself ke godile mo tirong yame (climbing up the leader) maybe ke le Bulletin Editor lol, staying positive its not easy but it has to start within. Just know what you want and what you want to achieve, focus on that.
ON ALCOHOL AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE!!!
Alcohol and drugs can only destroy your life. As a youngster, dream big and don’t ever give up on your dream no matter how small or big it is. Dreams true, you just have to work hard and not to sell yourself.
CELEBRATE OR COMMEMORATE JUNE 16!!!!!
South Africa is alive with possibilities,Youth Month to me its actually a reminder that Aluta Continua.
The youth of 76,fought their struggle and we enjoying the fruit of that, but still today we faced with a different struggle, struggle against rape, unemployrment, poverty and drug and alcohol abuse.
We should be fighting against this so that the next generation remember us as a generation who paved a way of a better life for them, not remember us as a lost generation” said Bayo.
IF YOU CAN BE A PRESIDENT FOR A DAY WHAT YOU WILL CHANGE!!!
Bahedile Selogilwe explain what inspired her every day and who is her role model.
“My granny is my role model. She was a very strong woman and if i can be a president for a day mmmm, without a doubt i will bring back death penalty” she giggle.
You can catch Bahedile “Bayo” Selogilwe on Motsweding Fm weekdays as a news reader and check her Facebook Page!!!!
