12 year sentence for killing boyfriend

Bloemhof – A 20-year-old woman who murdered her boyfriend was handed a 12-year prison term by the Bloemhof Regional Court, North West police said on Wednesday.

Five years were suspended on condition she was not convicted of murder, attempted murder, or assault with intent to do grievously bodily harm during that period, said Sergeant Kelebogile Moleko.

Dolly Moreetsi was sentenced last Thursday.

She killed her boyfriend Kibit Duiker in September 2013, said Sergeant Kelebogile Moleko.

“According to information received, Bloemhof police received a complaint about a couple who were fighting in Boitumelong location on September 19, 2013, at about 8.35pm. On arrival at the scene they found Duiker’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood,” said Moleko.

A witness told police that he was at Duiker’s house when the couple began fighting. The witness said Moreetsi stabbed Duiker in the chest.

After failing to grab the knife from Moreetsi, the witness ran away from the scene.

Duiker, who was wounded, made his way to a neighbour’s house where he died.

Moleko said police went to Duiker’s house where they found Moreetsi.

She confessed to killing him but did not explain why.

The murder weapon was found.
