Morokweng livestock-theft case resumes

TAUNG- TWO suspects who were arrested three weeks ago at Morokweng village, near Taung will resume on Thursday.

Two were nabbed after they allegedly stole 31 goats belonging to different community members.

North West police spokesperson Captain Pelonomi Makau said the suspects were arrested by community members at around 04:00am after they saw the suspects loading stock into a bakkie with Kwazulu-Natal plate numbers.

“Two suspects were arrested after they were nabbed by community members after being accused of livestock-theft. They were arrested and appeared before court and the case was postponed until 05 March 2015” Makau said.

The suspects were beaten before being handed over to the police.

The livestock-theft case continues.

Germiston accident leaves fifteen children injured

Germiston- Fifteen children, aged between one-year and five-year olds, were injured following an accident at the intersection of Agapanthus Road and Curry Road in Leondale, Germiston this morning after 07h30.

Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found that two light delivery vehicles were involved in a side-impact collision.

One of the vehicles then proceeded to crash against a tree.

“Upon their arrival at the scene all the patients were out of the vehicles and standing on the side of the road. Upon assessment of all the occupants they found that all the children had sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious” Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann said.

All the injured patients were treated at the scene and transported to hospital for further medical care.

Exact detail surrounding the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation.

Traffic was affected as a result of the accident.

Klate to leave Pirates today


Orlando Pirates midfielder Daine Klate is set to leave the club before the close of the domestic transfer window at 17h00 today.

Klate’s agent Tim Sukazi yesterday confirmed on Metro FM the departure of the 29-year-old, who has been linked to Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United.

Two nabbed for livestock theft in Reivilo

REIVILO- Two men were arrested in connection of stock-theft at Reivilo on Wednesday, says North West police.

According to police, two suspects were arrested at the livestock auction in Reivilo, near Taung.

“Two suspects were arrested in Reivilo during auction. It is alleged that the two stole some cattle from Taung and came to sell them at the auction.

“Reivilo police received a tip-off about the said suspects. They followed that information very carefully and went to the auction” said our mole.

The suspects were arrested immediately after they tried to sell suspected stolen cattle.

The perpetrators were charged for being in possession of suspected stolen property.

Gcaba called up to replace Phungwayo


Orlando Pirates defender Ayanda Gcaba has been called up to replace club mate Patrick Phungwayo, who was withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana squad due to knee injury.

Gcaba is expected in Libreville, Gabon on Tuesday, 13 January to join his compatriots who have set up camp in preparation for the CAF Orange Africa Cup of Nations Equatorial Guinea 2015 tournament.

But before then, he will undergo medical assessment tomorrow (Monday, 12 January) and get his visa.

Phungwayo returned home to South Africa on Saturday night (10 January) after undergoing an MRI scan which revealed that he had a tear that needed time to heal.

“It is very unfortunate that we lost Phungwayo but such is life. I would like to thank his club for releasing him to help our cause. We looking forward to working with him again in future,” said Bafana Bafana coach Ephraim Shakes Mashaba.

“And to the new player we say welcome, we look forward to you joining us and working here in Gabon. We know like every player this is a chance you have been waiting for and hope you make a success of it. I have always said that players should be ready for a call-up and he has shown his readiness. Once again thanks to the club for the full cooperation shown in dealing with this matter, we really appreciate the support given to the national team.”

Bafana Bafana are in the same group with Algeria, Ghana and Senegal at the AFCON 2015 tournament.

Keet and Phungwayo leave Bafana Bafana camp


– Goalkeeper Darren Keet has been given leave of absence from the Bafana Bafana camp to be with his wife, who is expecting their first child.

Keet will leave for Belgium tonight (Saturday, 10 January 2015) after South Africa’s international friendly match against Cameroon which will take place at the Stade de L’amitie in Libreville, Gabon.

Kick-off is at 21h00 South African time.

Keet, who will start on the bench against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, is expected back in camp on Monday, 12 January in the evening.

Defender Patrick Phungwayo will also bid farewell to his teammates after the match as he returns home to start treatment.

The Orlando Pirates left-back was withdrawn from the AFCON 2015 squad because of a knee injury.

His replacement will be named soon.

Man killed in shootout


‪A man in his 20s was killed this evening after he was shot in Chive Road in Kewtown in the Western Cape.‬

‪When ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene and found the man patient lying in the middle of the intersection in a pool of blood.

On assessment of the patient, paramedics discovered he had been shot multiple times and that he showed no signs of life.‬

‪”Paramedics immediately began CPR while providing the patient with advanced life support. Unfortunately, after 25 minutes of CPR, the patient succumbed to his severe injuries” ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.‬

‪The cause of the incident is unknown but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.

Greater Taung Municipal Manager returns to his office after appeal

TAUNG- The tables were turned at Greater Taung Local Municipality this week after deposed Municipal Manager Katlego Gabanakgosi returned to his office.

According to Vaaltar FM, Gabanakgosi who was removed from his office after the opposition party avow that he did not meet requirements.

The opposition party ACDP said the EXCO did not follow the correct measures when hiring Katlego Gabanakgosi.

ACDP representative Gaolatlhwe Tshipo told Vaaltar FM that according to requirements needed in hiring  Municipal Manager, Gabanakgosi did not meet the requirements.

“North West High Court confirmed that the measures used in hiring Municipal Manager were not correct. The court ruled in our favour and we do not care who is hired, the point is whether that person meets requirements or not” Tshipo said.

The Municipal Manager returned to his office this week after the Exco appeal the decision taken by North West High Court in Mahikeng.

Greater Taung Municipal Mayor Kaone Lobelo said the Municipal Manager resumes his duties after the Court of Appeal overturned the decision taken by High Court.

“The matter is still under judiciary and the municipal manager resumes his duties while waiting for the final judgment” Lobelo said.

Mayor Kaone Lobelo previously said they will not appeal the decision and will follow the regulations guiding them in what’s needed from a municipal manager candidate.

The sinister started when then deposed Municipal Manager Katlego Gabanakgosi who is a qualified engineer, was accused of not meeting requirements to become Municipal Manager.
