A negligence case opened against mother as Manokwane gogo gets help

By Obakeng Maje
Taung- A 66 year-old partially blind gogo breathed a sigh of relief after help came knocking to her house in Kuwaneng village, Taung.

Julia Mapalentwe who stays with her five grandchildren, was grateful on Saturday while speaking to our crew after the North West Social Development came to her rescue by taking three children to a place of safety.

Mapalentwe who carries a shoulder injury after she slipped on the door-step, says she appreciate the help she received.

Mapalentwe was abandoned by her family and living in a cluttered two-roomed, made matter worse.

“With regard to the family of Mapalentwe children, the department has through social workers removed neglected children from their biological mother to a registered temporary safe care facility and since opened a case  of child neglect against the mother” North West Social Development spokesperson Petrus Siko said.

According to information, the mother of the five kids does not take care of her kids nor gogo.

“I confirm that these children have received food parcels, school shoes and hygienic packs. In addition the partially blind granny our social workers are awaiting an application from Christiana old age home. We have been made to believe that her family is reluctant to take care of her. However a temporary arrangement has been made with a family member to take care of her while the old age home application unfold” concludes Siko.-TDN
