Police looking for two missing men

28 January 2026 – The police in Ikageng Township, near Potchefstroom request the community’s assistance in locating a Lesotho national, Lebohang Emmanuel Makhutla (37) and Pule Ignatius Sibanda (36). The police said Makhutla and Sibanda were last seen on Tuesday morning, 18 November 2025, when they allegedly went to hunt for wild animals near the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), 4 Artillery base, but never returned home.

The North West police spokesperson, Sergeant Kelebogile Morake said a search commenced around the area and extensive investigations were conducted, without any positive results. Morake said at the time of his disappearance, Makhutla was wearing a navy-blue, long, track suit pants and track suit top.

“He is dark in complexion, has a muscular built body, is 1.55m tall and has short, black hair with a moustache and a very short beard. Sibanda was wearing a silky, navy blue, track suit pants and silky, grey, track suit top with black dots.

“Furthermore, he was wearing brown soldier boots and a navy blue bucket hat. He is dark in complexion, has an average built body, 1.65m tall with a bold head and a moustache, with a very short beard,” she said.

Morake further said the police request anyone who may have information regarding the pair’s whereabouts to contact the Investigating Officer, Constable Karim Sheik on 082 416 1015. She added that, alternatively, they can call their local police station or Crime Stop on ‪08600 10111.

“Anonymous tip-offs can also be communicated via the MySAPS App from your smartphone,” said Morake.

Police looking for missing Bokvel

15 August 2025- The police in Ikageng Township, near Potchefstroom appeal to the public to assist them in locating Alfred Gameni Bokvel (47), who is residing in Boifang Street, Extension 7, in Ikageng Township, Potchefstroom.

According to the North West police spokesperson, Colonel Adéle Myburgh said Bokvel would normally leave home and come back after a few months. Mburgh said, however, on 1 December 2021 at around 10am, he left home but never came back.

“A search was conducted in the surrounding areas and extensive investigations did not yield positive results.

“At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a beige jacket, blue t-shirt, a mustard colour trouser and black shoes,” she said.

Myburgh further said Bokvel is dark in complexion with black eyes, a moustache and beard, a scar on the right side of his nose and a knife scar on the left side of the chest. She added that he weighs about 60kg and is 1.6m tall with black medium-length, afro hair. 

“Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts can contact the Investigating Officer, Constable Pholoso Mosenogi on 063 369 8023.

“You can also phone your local police station or South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Anonymous tip-offs can also be communicated via the MySAPS App from your smartphone,” said Myburgh.

She further said extortion-related incidents can be reported on the Extortion hotline on 080 091 1011.

Police need your assistance to identify a rape suspect

The police in Ikageng Township, near Potchefstroom, request the community’s assistance in locating and identifying a man as per attached identikit. On 11 May 2024 at around 15:25, a woman (34) was allegedly visiting a local tavern in Sarafina Section, where she met the unknown man. He allegedly requested her to accompany him home.

The North West police spokesperson, Lieutenant Col Amanda Funani said as the victim and the alleged perpetrator were walking closer to the Sarafina Taxi Rank at an open field, the man suddenly became aggressive. Funani said the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim and ultimately raped her.

“The man is brown in complexion with dark eyes, short in length, medium built and has a thin moustache. He was wearing a blue Uzzi hooded Jacket and is estimated to be in his twenties.

“Anyone with information that can assist the police to identify and trace the man is requested to contact the Investigating Officer, Warrant Officer Rendani Bulannga of Potchefstroom Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit on 082 568 9028,” she said. 

Funani said anonymous tip-offs can also be communicated via MySAPS App on smart phones or alternatively call Crime Stop on ‪08600 10111.
