Opening marking centres in Northern Cape

1 December 2025- The Northern Cape MEC for Education, Abraham Vosloo has officially opened the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination marking centres in the Northern Cape on Monday. Vosloo was accompanied by the Director General of Basic Education, Mathanzima Mweli and the acting Head of the Department, Dr Michelle Ishmail and Senior Managers.

He further said in the Northern Cape, a total of 78 different question papers were written and 196 642 answer scripts need to be marked. Vosloo added that they have appointed 916 markers, 186 senior markers, 85 chief markers, 21 deputy chief markers, 85 internal moderators, 3 centre managers, 6 deputy centre managers and 250 examination assistants.

“The marking and capturing of marks will be completed by 12 December 2025,” he said.

Learners’ placement for 2026 academic year has commenced in Northern Cape

3 August 2025- The Northern Cape MEC for Education, Abraham Vosloo said their Online Admission System continues to set the standard nationwide, serving as a benchmark for effective and efficient learner admissions. Vosloo said the application period for the 2026 academic year was open from 14 April until 23 May 2025, during which they received a total of 30 409 applications for Grades R, 1 and 8.

“The first round of the placement process for learners commenced on 31 July 2025 at 5pm. Parents and legal guardians have received SMS notifications informing them of the outcome of their child’s placement. The second round of placements will take place on 22 August 2025.

“We extend our sincere appreciation to the admission teams at both Provincial and District offices for their unwavering commitment and hard work. Their dedication ensures that all placements will be concluded by the end of November 2025,” he said.

MTN donates computer lab to Port Nolloth High School

16 April 2025- The Northern Cape MEC for Education, Abraham Vosloo officially opened the Multipurpose Computer Laboratory at Port Nolloth High School today. Vosloo was accompanied by representatives of MTN whom have provided the school with a state of the art facility, consisting of 30 computers.

“The Computer Laboratory is equipped with all the necessary facilities to expose our learners from a very early age to the use of technology.  We live in a modern world, where technology impacts on our life, work and how we do things.

“Access to Information Technology at home, work and at our schools means that Education can truly become a life-long activity. We are confident that this initiative will further enhance the quality of public education in our schools,” he said.

Vosloo further said jointly with MTN, they will continue to invest in the future of the youth through initiatives such as these, which will ensure their learners a prepared for a changing world.
