TAUNG RESIDENTS WELCOME THE NEW CHILDHOOD CENTRE

By Obakeng Maje
Taung-Kgosi Nyoko Motlhabane of the Batlhaping Baga-Maidi says the residents of Matsheng and the surrounding villages in Taung are highly spirited to receive a new early childhood development centre in their area – a move that would empower children from an early stage.

Motlhabane was speaking at an early childhood development (ECD) massification campaign held at Mmabana in Greater Taung Local Municipality on Friday.

“The establishement of the centre here in Matsheng is a history that will remain on record that government has built a centre for our children. This is a fresh start in the education of our children. By this, we are rest assured that the future of our children is bright,” Motlhabane said, adding that the vicious circle of poverty would only be broken with education.

During the campaign North West MEC for Social Development, Collen Maine, accompanied by Kgosi Motlhabane and the municipal councillors conducted a sod-turning of ECD centre at Matsheng.

Maine said his department is geared to achieve intended purpose, of intervening in the lives of toddlers, between the ages of 0 to 4 years, with the intention of preparing them mentally and physically for the life that awaits them in the later years.

“To this effect, the department in partnership with the National Development Agency has set aside R3 million to build three prototype early childhood development centres in three district municipalities in the next current financial year. We have already conducted three sod-turning ceremonies to mark the erection of these centres in Bojanala, Dr Kenneth Kaunda and Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati district municipalities,” Maine said.

As part of the activities of the campaign Maine addressed more than 500 early childhood development practitioners who braved a sunny weather to meet the authorities at Mmabana in Taung.-TDN
